CD MARINO 1 LANZAROTE 2
The Rojillos came from behind on Saturday afternoon and made it 10 points out of a possible 12 in their last four matches and climb up to second spot in the league table.
Last season’s Segunda B (Third Tier) side have been struggling this season and began and ended the day in the final relegation position (14th). All began very well for the Tenerife side when they took the lead in the 10th minute following a header by Josua Benítez from a corner kick.
Lanzarote are proving to be made stern stuff this season and new striker Rubo once again showed what an alert striker he is. In the 17th minute he latched on to a defenders pass and poked the ball home to level the score at 1-1 and notch up his 4th strike of the season.
Another new signing who is already becoming a crowd favourite is the 19 year old Brazilian, Alyson. In the 26th minute he shot at goal forcing the keeper to save but was then first to the rebound and tucked it home to give his side a 1-2 lead. It is fabulous news to have your two strikers banging in the goals already this season and oozing with confidence.
Rubo then came close just before the interval to extending his sides lead but his powerful effort came off the post and away to safety.
When you are away from home and are in the lead at half time it’s quite easy to sit back and protect that advantage. Sometimes this can work and other times it doesn’t. The side from Los Cristianos had numerous opportunities to level the score but they were met with a solid defence and an inspired goalkeeper Ruymán.
Last season Ruymán largely played second fiddle to team mate and good friend Alejandro but this season he has taken his chance and excelled. Despite all the pressure Lanzarote remained strong and claimed their second away win on the bounce.
The Rojillos do not want to get too carried away with this as they have played one game more than most sides around them. This Wednesday 13th October Lanzarote is at home at 8pm and face fourth placed side CD Atlético Paso who trail by just a point. This match was originally scheduled for the day previous but due to internal flights being reduced because of volcanic eruptions in La Palma both sides agreed to this new date.
