UD LANZAROTE 1 S.D. TENISCA 2

13th December 2010

Lanzarote finally lose their first home game of the season. After going 0-1 down Lanzarote striker Echedey levelled the scores five minutes before the break.

Midway through the second half the La Palma side scored the winner through frontman Memo who has scored winners against Lanzarote many times during his spell with U.D. Fuerteventura. This goal has pushed his new club into fourth position which is the final remaining play off spot.

Lanzarote still remain top by two points and will be travelling to La Palma next week to play lowly U.D. Tijarafe

The Rojillos began the game well and in the 5th minute a pinpoint cross from Toñito found the head of Rosmen but the in form striker headed over. In the 11th minute Tenerife striker Tesenery broke through the static Lanzarote back four and comfortably planted the ball wide of Rojillos keeper Alejandro and into the right hand corner giving the visitors a shock 0-1 lead.

That was as good as it got for the away side. Lanzarote completely dominated possession from there on and showed their class as well as superior fitness against a dazzled Tenerife outfit. The only other shock was that it took till the half hour for the hosts to draw level.

A top class pass from fellow striker Echedey found Rosmen and the tall striker easily buried his first strike of the day. Four minutes later and Lanzarote had a 2-1 lead. Some good passing was followed by a wicked cross from the right by full back Angel and defender Nauzet deflected the ball via his head into his own goal leaving his keeper stranded.

Three minutes into the second half and a brilliant low, powerful cross from Toñito was met by Rosmen and on his first touch blasted Lanzarote into a commanding 3-1 lead from six yards.

The Rojillos did not relent as the crowd relaxed in the beautiful Arrecife sun enjoying Lanzarote´s best performance of the season. Just after the hour mark Ayoze released Rosmen who made no mistake with his second hat trick of the season and fired the Rojillos into a 4-1 lead.

Sub Yaco scored a superb fifth in the 81st minute but the goal that rounded off a superb afternoons work for the Rojillos was by man of the match Toñito. What has happened to the lad this season? His quality has always been there to be seen but his temperament has always been what has let him down, spending a large part of last season in the stands following a host of red cards.

He played an outstanding match switching flanks and terrorizing either full back. In the 86th minute the 25 year old picked the ball up on the edge of the 18 yard box and waltzed through the Tenerife defence side stepping the goalkeeper and tapping the ball into the net for a superb goal rounding off a five star performance.

Credit must be given to Rojillos manager Quico De Diego who has finally tamed this wild stallion and maybe at 25 years of age it is too late for Toñito to play at a top level but there is little doubt to all who saw this performance that he certainly has the ability.

The Rojillos have returned to top spot on goal difference from Las Palmas B and will fly to Tenerife on New Years Eve to play 7th placed side C.D. Vera returning to the Island of the Volcanoes around 8pm the same evening to see the New Year in at home.
