GENERAL UPDATE no 3

UD Lanzarote have continued to progress with their summer signings for season 2026/27 which will begin in the first week of September.

Fixtures will not be released until late July/ early August by the Spanish Football Federation which is always so frustrating that it comes so late.

In the coming weeks the club will begin their season ticket campaign and announce preseason tournaments and friendlies.

RENEWALS

Ale Fuentes becomes the club’s 11th player to renew his contract. This will be the 26-year-olds fourth consecutive season with the club and fifth overall. He has participated in 110 matches for the Rojillos and 192 games in this category.

Ale is known for his pace and fast feet but at the beginning of last season it was a frustrating time for the talented winger as he was fighting to return from injury.

It looked as though he was back to full fitness as he excelled on his return but once again he had minor injury problems and it wasn’t until the latter end of the season that he returned to match fitness.

There is little doubt a fully fit Ale Fuentes would be a welcome addition to any team in this category and the club are delighted to secure his signature for the forthcoming season.

Another to renew his contract is midfielder Amadou Traoré. If there was one player that stood out at the beginning of last season it was “Traoré”.

He was playing at the top of his game going into the New Year and there was no coincidence that Lanzarote were in second spot trailing leaders and eventual champions CD Atlético Paso by just two points.

In the 3-0 home win versus San Bartolomé on the 4th January Traoré went down and it was instantly apparent to see that the injury was serious.

The now 22-year-old underwent cruciate ligament surgery and is making super progress. It is doubtful that he will be available for the opening day but he should be match fit shortly after.

NEW SIGNING

The club welcomes striker Álvaro Cordero as its seventh new signing.

The 28-year-old who will turn 29 on Sunday has plenty of experience in the National League with over 250 appearances. His best season was with AD Llerenense in the 2024/25 when he bagged 22 goals, five of which came in the playoffs.

PASSING

It is with great sadness that former UD Lanzarote goalkeeper Mariano García Ramírez passed away last Sunday following a long illness.

Mariano, also known as “The Frog” was one of the Rojillos first ever players when he joined the club in its inaugural season in 1970.

NEW DIRECTOR OF UD LANZAROTE ACADEMY

Dani Febles has been officially presented as head of the UD Lanzarote youth academy.

Dani joined the Rojillos as a player in the January transfer window in the 23/24 campaign and continued with the club the following season before spending the 25/26 campaign with U.S. Yaiza.

The hugely popular Venezuelan has also returned as a player for the first team and has incredible experience of football after playing in various countries around the world and also has the added advantage of speaking fluent English.
