LANZAROTE 1 SAN BARTOLOMÉ CF 1
The points were deservedly shared in a hugely entertaining derby match.
San Bartolomé started the better but it was the Rojillos that took a 6th minute lead. A short corner was then crossed into the box and Aco Hernández headed home, his second goal in successive weeks to give Lanzarote a 1-0 advantage.
That lead didn’t last long. Two minutes later and San Bartolomé were awarded a penalty that was thrashed home to level the score.
The Batateros (Sweet Potato Farmers) urged on by their vociferous supporters took the initiative and created the better chances but the score remained 1-1 going into the break.
Nobody would have stopped this belter of a penalty.
Lanzarote were much better after the interval but both sides had wonderful opportunities to take the lead but the goalkeepers from either side were in tremendous form.
Lanzarote introduced their new signing Marcos Marrero just after the hour. Moments after his arrival on what was his first touch he struck from the edge of the box curling his effort low into the right-hand corner, however the San Bartolomé keeper superbly got his fingers on the ball to only concede a corner.
A crowd of around 2000 were rewarded with a highly entertaining match.
Seconds after that Blas Álvarez headed across the box and a Lanzarote head got onto the ball in the six-yard box and every Lanzarote fan were out of their seats convinced it was a goal but somehow it was cleared off the line.
Both sides were looking for the win and credit must be given to the referee as there were a few rash challenges but he did his best to let the game flow understanding that it was a derby match.
Lanzarote are in 14th spot whilst San Bartolomé move up one place to second. Next week Lanzarote have a difficult away match versus leaders UD Las Palmas C.
