UD LANZAROTE DELIVER YOUR ITEMS TO HELP THE VICTIMS OF THE LA PALMA VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS

Last weekend David Timmons and Brendan Byrne represented UD Lanzarote delivering necessities donated by Rojillo fans and friends to the people of La Palma who have been made homeless or who have been forced to evacuate their homes because of the relentless volcanic eruptions.

The two men left Lanzarote on the 10 hour ferry to Tenerife via Gran Canaria and spent the night in Los Cristianos in Tenerife. In the morning they caught the four hour early ferry to La Palma via the island of La Gomera and arrived early afternoon.

On driving down to the affected areas they were in full view of the erupting Cumbre Vieja volcano and were in awe of the noise the volcano was producing. There were stops in the districts of Al Paso and in Tazacorte (the area where the lava is flowing into the sea) and David and Brendan were greeted by delighted Town Hall officials who thanked the people of Lanzarote for their generous donations.

The lava which shows no signs of ending has already destroyed over 1000 properties and forced more than 6000 people to evacuate their homes and experts have no idea when this turmoil will end for the people of La Palma.

David flew back later that day as he is organising a concert with all local artists in Puerto Del Carmen (Los Poscillos) this Saturday between 2pm to 6pm in aid of the victims of La Palma. Brendan was left to bring the van back to Lanzarote on that difficult and tiring journey. The club is scheduled to have another van leave this Friday and hopefully one at the end of the month.

Items that are urgently required include baby food, bottles, nappies, masks, dry food, cleaning liquids and products, all toiletry products, kitchen utensils and small household appliances. These can be dropped off at the Football shop in Costa Teguise at CC Nautical, Local 25 (up from Decades Bar and behind Café Bonjour) open Monday to Friday 10am to 1pm.

Clothing etc can still be brought in but these items are no longer required in La Palma though we will be giving what we receive to charities here in Lanzarote.

On behalf of UD Lanzarote thank you all so much for supporting our cousins in the beautiful island of La Palma.
