MATCH, SIGNINGS AND THAT DAMN COVID

The Rojillos are due to play UD Guía at home this Sunday 17th January at 12 noon.

The Gran Canarian side are in sixth position and are six points ahead of Lanzarote in the table though the Rojillos have a game in hand.

Even though Lanzarote´s form has been poor, if Lanzarote can claw back that six points with their 11 matches remaining and finish in sixth spot they will qualify for the promotion playoffs.

Due to a big spike in Covid in the Canary Islands it is quite possible that this match will be suspended. The Canarian Government meet today and it is extremely likely that tougher restrictions will be introduced.

If you have been following the Rojillos this season you would realize that Lanzarote have had many problems, however scoring four goals in their seven matches played with no goals in the last three games is something that is at the forefront to be addressed.

CD Tenerife striker Giovanni Rodríguez has just been signed to help with this problem. At just 22 years of age he certainly doesn’t lack experience having played 111 matches in the Tercera Division, 83 of those games have been in the starting line up, notching 35 goals. Giovanni will be joined by fellow Tenerife player Josua Benítez. The 28 year old centre back will be joining his new teammates today and has played 263 games at this level scoring on 17 occasions. We welcome you both to Lanzarote.

Whilst things have been difficult on the island with only essential flights now arriving and hotels closing, one thing remains constant on the island and that is the weather. Today is another superb day and I am just heading down for a swim.

Let’s hope the rest of you in Britain, Ireland and the rest of Europe can successfully get through your Lockdown or restrictions and return to Lanzarote as soon as possible to enjoy this wonderful sun soaked island.
