U.D. LAS PALMAS C 0 LANZAROTE 0, 30th November 2019,
An excellent first half for the Rojillos but failing to convert any of the three good opportunities that came their way seems to be the story of the season so far.
An away draw against a side above you in the league is always a welcome point however out of their 15 matches Lanzarote have played nine of those have ended in stalemate.
Striker Aday López had a half chance early on but in the 12th minute he lost his marker and got on the end of a typically whipped in Miguel Gómez cross but his header from six yards fell straight into the keepers arms.
Two minutes before the break Aday returned the favour to Miguel when he pulled back a cross for the Lanzarote winger. Miguel arched his body so well to get over the ball and it looked odds on that he would score but his volley from 12 yards flew narrowly past the right hand post.
The Las Palmas C side were much stronger in the second period and scraped the Rojillos woodwork on a couple of occasions.Manager Jero Santana will be pleased with the attitude of his players as once again there was no lack of commitment.
The Gran Canarian side intensified the pressure late on and this was compounded with a groin injury to striker Aday López. Lanzarote had used up all of its three substitutes so Aday remained on the pitch and still gave his all with the limited mobility he had as his side hung on for the draw.
Lanzarote are in 12th spot and are many wins away to threaten a playoff spot but are also well clear of the relegation positions.
There are no games next weekend as the referees enjoy their Christmas party but a midweek match the following week will compensate for that missed weekend.
Lanzarote’s next game will be at their new home at the stadium of Tias on Wednesday 11th December (at present kick off time hasn’t been confirmed but probably at 5pm) versus CF Unión Viera.
