U.D. GRAN TARAJAL 1 LANZAROTE 0, 24th November 2019

U.D. GRAN TARAJAL   1   LANZAROTE   0,   24th November 2019,

The Rojillos lose to a second half goal against their derby rivals from Fuerteventura in a very even match.

Plenty of Lanzarote fans made their way over either by car or the organised bus trip and they once again saw their side give the commitment but ultimately it was not enough.

Great support from the Lanzarote travelling fans.

The first half was a scrappy affair with both defences not giving anything away. The home side did have the better opportunities but neither goalkeeper had been forced into serious action.

Ten minutes into the second half and a defence splitting pass and a top finish from striker Héctor Figueroa gave the second placed side a 1-0 lead.

Rojillos manager Jero Santana had an abundance of attacking talent on the bench including Miguel Gómez, Alex Fuentes and Rami. On the hour he brought the main man on Miguel Gómez, and by the 68th minute all three of them were on the pitch.

A birds eye view of the Gran Tarajal stadium.

Even though Lanzarote battled until the final whistle it was the Gran Tarajal defence who won their side all three points.

The leagues newcomers are having a cracking season. Whilst they remain in second spot they have closed the gap to league leaders CD Marino to just a point.

Meanwhile the Rojillos slip to 13th position and are ten points adrift from the playoff positions and seven points from the drop.

A huge appreciation must be mentioned to Jane Hayden and her friend Julie who organised the raffle. It wasn’t the greatest start from them as the bus that dropped all the fans down to the ferry then shot off not notifying Jane or anybody else, so everyone who left belongings on the bus including all raffle prizes had to hope that they were going to be there on pick up. Even though it was a different bus all items were on the bus and Jane and Julie raised 260 Euros. Thanks girls.

Jane finally getting all her raffle prizes from the bus.

Lanzarote are away next Saturday versus Las Palmas C but the next home match will NOT be in Arrecife it WILL be in the stadium in Tias.

The playing surface in Arrecife has caused many injuries this season so for safety concerns the move to Tias with their beautifully newly laid astro surface and intimate stadium should be a blessing. More details of this change will follow.

The first home match scheduled for Tias has NOT been confirmed but is expected to be Wednesday 11th December at a 5pm kick off versus CF Unión Viera.
