LANZAROTE 3 CF P.P. SAN MATEO 1, 17th November 2019,
The Rojillos have performed better this season and only walked away with a point. After seven games without a win the home fans will not be too bothered about the lacklustre performance after winning maximum points.
The first half of the match was quite uneventful for the home side with the best opportunity falling to the Gran Canarian outfit. In the 21st minute after some neat footwork from striker Braulio his effort from only six yards was tame and keeper Alejandro made a comfortable save.
Lanzarote upped the tempo of the match early in the second period and in the 52nd minute Miguel Gómez executed an excellent free kick which found striker Aday López but his header from ten yards hit the crossbar and went for a goal kick.
Ten minutes later and Miguel Gómez was tripped on the edge of the box. One was expecting one of his powerful strikes but he hit the ball low past the wall and into the bottom left corner to give his side a 1-0 advantage.
The Rojillos haven’t been good at holding onto a lead this season and again this proved to be the case just two minutes later. A free kick for the 8th placed side was given to a winger on the left completely unattended, he crossed low and the ball rolled across the six yard box and first to react was sub Borja who seemed to have all the time in the world before he sent the ball past a helpless keeper to level the game at 1-1.
This setback spurred on the Rojillos and with Ayoze Pérez dictating play in midfield and Alex Fuentes causing chaos in the Gran Canarian defence down the left wing it began to stretch the visitors.
In the 67th minute a glorious threaded ball from Aday López found his captain Rosmen, the 39 year old simply lifted the ball over the advanced keeper from eight yards to send his side back in front with a 2-1 lead.
In the 82nd minute a super run down the left wing from Alex Fuentes beating two defenders before pulling the ball back for Nico González to slam home from six yards sealed the 3-1 victory.
This win moves Lanzarote up to 11th spot and they are now both seven points from the playoffs and also from the relegation positions.
Next Sunday 24th November Lanzarote travel to Fuerteventura to face second placed side UD Gran Tarajal. The club are doing their best to organise buses for this trip and details will be put on the Facebook page Lanzarote football club as soon as they are released. Photos of this match will also be published on that Facebook page.
