ATLETÍCO UNIÓN DE GUÍMAR   0   LANZAROTE   1,   2nd December 2018,

Lanzarote make it four wins on the bounce and it is just a two point distance from a playoff spot as they sit comfortably in fifth position.

The Rojillos went into this game oozing with confidence following their recent good form. Early season their defence were leaking goals but it has now been more than six hours since Lanzarote conceded a goal and up the other end Miguel Gómez is in the form of his career scoring the winning goal in each of the last three matches.

Miguel Gómez on fire!

The ninth placed Tenerife side were under the cosh from the start and in the opening couple of minutes the Lanzarote captain Rosmen came close with two good chances to give his side the lead.

The hosts responded well but Lanzarote´s defence blocked one effort then Alejandro produced a good save at the far post following a corner to keep the score level. Miguel Gómez had Lanzarote´s best chance of the first half when he found himself inside the penalty area alone but failed to beat the goalkeeper.

Guímar began the second half the sharper of the two sides and it was the Rojillos keeper Alejandro who is bursting with confidence that denied the home side saving at full stretch to maintain his fourth clean sheet on the bounce in the opening minutes.

The safe hands of the Lanzarote keeper Alejandro.

As they have done in the past few weeks Lanzarote came alive in the final third of the match. It was that man again Migual Gómez. In the 62nd minute he struck the ball on the edge of the area and saw it go in off the post to score his fourth goal in three games but more importantly gave his side a 0-1 advantage.

The visitors wanted more and should have extended their lead, Rosmen, Ayoze and Alex Yunes all had chances to give their side breathing space but nevertheless their efforts kept the home side on the back foot.

In the closing minutes Guímar piled on the pressure and in added on time they had a super chance to earn a point but once again Alejandro cementing his position as Lanzarote´s number one was having none of it.

Just a few weeks ago the daggers were out for Lanzarote´s players and management as the Rojillos were sitting in 14th position just three points from the relegation positions. Manager Maxi Barerra and his red and blue army has silenced the critics as his side move up to 5th with his team playing some delightful football.

Next Sunday 9th December at 12 noon Lanzarote will face 12th placed Tenerife side Atlético Tacoronte.
