LANZAROTE   2   C.F. PANADERÍA PULIDO   0,   25th November 2018,

The Rojillos make it a hat trick of wins to move up from 14th spot to 6th place within the space of three weeks largely to another brilliant performance by Miguel Gómez.

The game was marred by a disturbing problem for the referee on the half hour. Rojillos striker Alex Yunes noticed that the referee had dropped his whistle and then saw the official completely disorientated. He immediately called to the medical staff to attend to Señor Cristopher Negrín.

The referee being assisted by players and the Lanzarote medic.

The game was suspended for 45 minutes whilst he made a recovery to a health issue that he had previous. The good news is that the referee was able to watch the second half of the show from the sidelines and entertained he would have been.

The Gran Canarian side contributing to a great game of football.

Lanzarote´s intentions were clear from the start as they bombarded the Gran Canarian side from the opening whistle.

In the 4th minute Miguel Gómez chipped in a delightful ball through to striker Rosmen. The Lanzarote captain perfectly nodded the ball into the path of the oncoming Nico González whose volley was superbly saved from keeper and who turned out to be man of the match, Ale.

What can you say about Miguel Gómez? On his day it’s hard to believe why he doesn’t play in a higher league but there has been times in the past when he has lacked the commitment, however as the 27 year old has matured over the past few seasons Lanzarote are reaping the benefits.

A few strokes of genius from Miguel Gómez.

Anyone who has seen Miguel play regularly could see from the offset that he was up for this game and whenever he got the ball you were on the edge of the seat knowing at any time a moment of brilliance could happen. The attacking midfielder did not disappoint.

In the 17th minute Miguel stunned the ball with a glorious touch then ran around his marker leaving him looking into the Lanzarote sun and delivered an excellent ball to Alex Yunes. The Rojillo striker cut inside a defender and curled his strike towards the right hand corner but a defender raced back and did well heading the ball away for a corner denying a certain goal for the hard working front man.

From the resulting corner the ball fell to Alex Yunes once more and he was desperately unlucky to see his snapped shot saved by a goalkeeper who was on top of his game.

The visitors who slipped into the relegation positions last week were not happy just sitting back and soaking in the pressure, they also contributed enormously to this wonderful match as they hit Lanzarote on the break on numerous occasions.

In the 19th minute Pulido striker Felipe carved open his defender and struck from 12 yards but he was met with another wonder save this time from Rojillos keeper Alejandro who met the powerful strike with a two handed diving save, the ball fell to winger Nano who tapped home but he was clearly in an offside position.

Only three minutes later and a terrific 25 yard strike from midfielder Pitu looked as though his swerving effort was dipping under the crossbar until Alejandro flew across and finger tipped the ball over for a corner.

On the half hour the play was suspended for three quarters of an hour because of the incident with the referee and it was difficult to see how the game could carry on with its intensity.

There was no worry of that as both teams got back to business immediately. Rojillos midfielder Alberto saw his header denied by another great save with the Pulido keeper deflecting his effort onto the crossbar.

On the stroke of half time galloping down the right flank Miguel nodded the ball in front of him, brushed off a defender and from a narrow angle he was just unable to squeeze the ball inside the far post as the keeper had narrowed the angle.

How this game came to a first half ending scoreless is unbelievable when it could have easily been 6-2.

The tempo of the first half did not relent in the second period. Early on a 15 yard strike from Miguel was well saved and Rosmen saw his header fly a yard over the bar.

You did begin to wonder was there going to be a way through, then in the 56th minute Miguel walloped the ball from a full 30 yards on the half volley and the ball fell into the top left hand corner into what will be one of the goals of the season.

A wonder goal from Miguel Gómez despite another great effort from the outstanding keeper Ale.

With the Rojillos 1-0 up they wanted to finish the job as quick as possible. On the hour Ayoze whipped in a free kick and the glance from the head of Rosmen from eight yards looked destined for the top right corner but Ale produced another outstanding save to keep his side in the match.

Sub Jacobo and striker Felipe then forced Alejandro into two fine saves within the space of five minutes as the visitors battled to level the score.

In the 68th minute the ever alive Felipe broke through the middle and headed over Alejandro and even though the ball was cleared off the line the Lanzarote keeper had clattered into Felipe and the Ref ordered a spot kick.

Midfielder Pitu hit the ball low and hard but keeper Alejandro was equal to it saving at his right hand post to maintain his third clean sheet in a row on his return to the number one spot for U.D. Lanzarote.

A fine penalty save from Alejandro.

The Rojillos had weathered the storm and deep into stoppage time British boy Brad fired home low from 10 yards following good work from Ayoze Pérez. This put the gloss on an all round excellent team performance with Miguel and Alejandro the shining stars on the day.

Brad sealing the victory with a goal in stoppage time.

Next week Lanzarote travel to Tenerife and face Atlético Unión de Guímar. The 9th placed side have only lost twice this season but both of those games were in November and they have not won in their last five outings.
