LANZAROTE 1 CD MARINO 1

LANZAROTE   1   CD MARINO   1, 8th March 2015

The top three is as it was after this weekend’s round of games. Lanzarote maintain their superb unbeaten home record whilst second placed side CD Mensajero earn a good draw away at fifth placed side Real Sporting.

It was more of a day for the beach rather than kicking a ball around for 90 minutes in blistering sun. Nevertheless whilst this was not a classic there was no lack of passion and the intensity of this match at times reached boiling point.

The Conejeros (Locals) had the first chance in the 7th minute. Midfielder Jeremy fed his skipper Rosmen but with no time available on the ball the Lanzarote striker toe poked an effort which produced an excellent save from the Tenerife goalkeeper.

For the remainder of the half Lanzarote had the majority of the ball but the visitors were well organised and killed any threat before the Rojillos could enter in the final third.

The league leaders came out for the second half with more intent and in the 57th minute some great quick passing on the edge of the area released striker Balduino. The strongly built front man who had been a handful for the Lanzarote defence neatly curled the ball with the outside of his foot wide of the Lanzarote keeper but with just enough bend on the ball to squeeze inside the post giving his side a 0-1 lead.

Lanzarote´s response was almost immediate with the two British boys Kennedy and Brad combining to release Rosmen. From a narrow angle and with the ball at an awkward height the Lanzarote striker fired in a fierce shot but the keeper had got his angles right and parried his effort.

In the 65th minute Rosmen´s glancing header from a long ball sent Toñito on his way, the winger outstripped his defender and from a last ditched effort the defender tried to clear the ball but only managed to kick Toñito directly in the face and the Ref had no hesitation in ordering a penalty.

The defender Aridani picked up his second yellow for the offence and the Tenerife side were reduced to 10 men. Rosmen fired the ball home for his 23rd strike of the season to level the match at 1-1.

Even with the man disadvantage the visitors looked dangerous on the break. Lanzarote were unable to push forward realizing what a quality side they were up against and sending men forward would allow the visitors to counter attack.

As the game drew to a close you had the feeling that the players were desperate to hear that final whistle as they were all exhausted. When the Ref did finally blow for fulltime players from both sides just collapsed on the astro turf grateful for a point.

Lanzarote remain joint second with CD Mensajero and next week are away in La Palma against the side that they are joint second with.
