ARUCAS CF 0 LANZAROTE 2

ARUCAS CF   0   LANZAROTE   2, 6th December 2014

U.D. Lanzarote will head into their Christmas party this evening with the word party definitely being high on the agenda.

With their third win in the last four away matches alongside the league’s best home form they have climbed the league table sitting in second spot just one point behind league leaders CD Marino.

Two headed second half goals were enough to cement a brilliant Christmas party for the team as soon as they returned to the island.

Rojillos manager Adolfo Pérez has done a wonderful job after losing many experienced players last season. He must be so proud that these youngsters have seized their opportunity and are playing for each other like only a true team does.

When a player is injured his debutant steps in and does a better job than him. The fact is the whole squad has only one wish and that is for their team to succeed. I haven’t seen an atmosphere at the club such as this since those fantastic Copa Del Rey games 10 years ago.

The Gran Canarian side began the game with the majority of possession but the Lanzarote defence comfortably defended any serious threat. As the half grew so did Lanzarote´s dominance on the ball and as the sides headed into half time it was the visitors who were on top.

Often this season Lanzarote have had a good start to the second half and on the beautiful natural grass of Arucas this tradition was set to continue.

Three minutes into the second period and a corner from Falo was met by the Lanzarote Captain Rosmen, his powerful header right of the keeper put Lanzarote 0-1 in front and in doing so Rosmen became the leagues joint top scorer with 10 goals.

The locals almost replied instantly but the ever reliable Lanzarote keeper Agoney once again showed his worth with his safe pair of hands. The home side looked threatening down the left flank but the Rojillos defence and midfield controlled the final third of the pitch.

Both sides had an opportunity with a free kick just outside the centre of the penalty area a minute apart. The home side blasted over the bar and Toñito made the keeper produce a good save as he tipped the ball away for a corner kick.

Rosmen had a great chance to double the lead as his team mate Toñito sent him through on a one against one with the Gran Canarian keeper but the Arucas stopper won the battle on this occasion.

Louis Kennedy who had been out with an ankle injury made his return to the team in the 72nd minute.  A minute later the bang on form British lad whipped in a pin point cross from the left which found midfielder Kilian, and on the meat of his Fellani lookalike head he sensibly nodded low sending the Rojillos gracefully into a 0-2 lead.

The Lanzarote defence has been solid all season and it never looked likely the home side would get back into the game. On a sour note Falo who has been a rock for Lanzarote lately got red carded seven minutes from time and also the other British boy Brad Cockerill picked up his fifth yellow card of the season so will be suspended for next week’s home match.

Lanzarote are the league’s highest scorers and their next home game is against bottom side CD Laguna on Sunday 14th December at 12 noon.
