LANZAROTE 3 CD EL COTILLO 1

LANZAROTE   3   CD EL COTILLO   1, 23rd November 2014,

The Rojillos stunning home form continues and with this win against the Fuerteventura side it means Lanzarote have picked up 19 out of a possible 21 points at home this season.

The visitors began the better and in the second minute a cross was swung in from the right which was met with a header from Juanjo but his effort fell straight into the arms of the Lanzarote keeper Agoney.

The Conejeros (locals) slowly got into their stride and the balance of play gradually evened out but it wasn’t until the last minute of the first half that Lanzarote had their first opportunity.

Toñito picked up the ball on the left and flew past his defender and with the outside of his boot swung in a beauty of a low cross to striker Yaco, what seemed an easy task to touch the ball home from five yards eluded the Lanzarote front man as his guided shot went back across the goal and away to safety.

Manager Adolfo Pérez made two changes during the break, bringing on Fellani lookalike Kilian and Italian Andrea replacing Jeremy and the injured Jesus.

The change of personal had an immediate effect, four minutes into the second period and Lanzarote were 1-0 up. Winger Toñito who is having an inspired season ripped his left back to shreds and flew down the right wing, striker Rosmen had read his run and got a yard in front of his marker as Toñito delivered the perfect ball to his captain to fire home and give the Rojillos the lead.

The Majoreros (Fuerteventurians) had a penalty appeal turned down in the 57th minute for a hand ball and moments later only a brilliant block by man of the match Falo prevented the visitors getting back into the game. Three minutes later and Lanzarote doubled their lead. Colombian striker Mauri powered down the left wing and crossed to Yaco on the far post who duly supplied the finish to give the home side breathing space with a 2-0 lead.

The visitors for a short while began to look as though they had given up. Toñito came close on two occasions, firstly he had a strike which came crashing off the post and in the 69th minute the Fuerteventura keeper denied the Lanzarote winger with a save at full stretch.

It now seemed if Lanzarote were queuing up to score. In the 70th minute it was the Italian who did the job firing in Lanzarote´s third with a low strike into the right hand corner from eight yards.

The Rojillos did take their foot off the pedal as our neighbours from across the water had several chances to pull a goal back. With four minutes of normal time remaining the visitors did get that goal when Lanzarote centre back went to clear his lines but could only divert the ball past his own keeper which made the final score 3-1.

Lanzarote remain in third spot but have reduced the gap to league leaders CD Marino to just three points. The Rojillos will have another go this week at improving the league’s best home form but this will be a tough test as they face fourth placed Gran Canarian side Villa Santa Brígida. This game has been confirmed for Sunday 30th Nov at a 12 noon kick off.
