UD LANZAROTE WELCOMES WALKING FOOTBALL TO THE CLUB

Lanzarote Walking Football has been on the island a little over three years and in that time it has gone from strength to strength with up to 30 players turning up for training every Thursday in Costa Teguise between 6-7.30pm.

Walking football began with Chesterfield FC in 2011 and it has become the fastest growing sport in the UK. Here in Lanzarote it began just over three years ago and since taking off the men and women have played tournaments in Spain and even hosted the Spanish Walking Football national team.

UD Lanzarote´s Walking Football team representing the island in mainland Spain.

Lanzarote´s co founder Vic Locke and most of the men and women are regulars at UD Lanzarote matches with over 20 of them with season tickets. Vic has said that they always welcome new people even those that are on holiday. Men must be at least into their 50th year and women in their 40th.

There is a complete mixture of people that attend including Canarians, Spanish, British and South American along with other European nationalities. The club donated home and away kits to their squad last year and ever since all the players have been proud walking onto the pitch representing the island.

The oldest player is Mike Cuddy who is 73 years of age and his enthusiasm is plain to see. Mike has said that when he joined three years ago it gave him a new lease of life and he hopes to continue as long as humanely possible.

73 year old Mike still playing the game he loves.
