UD VILLA SANTA BRÍGIDA   1   LANZAROTE   2

The Rojillos put in an almighty performance to carve out a victory and move within two points of league leaders CD Tenerife B.

Lanzarote have moved up to second spot but Yaiza in third play their match away in Fuerteventura later today. Tomorrow UD Las Palmas B are at home versus CD Tenerife B so the league table will change.

In the first half Lanzarote were superb. Ismael Traoré was a constant threat and in the 23rd minute a cross by Febles to the far post was well headed back by Jorge Canillas (photo) and Traoré did well to wrap his foot around the high ball to smash it into the roof of the net to give Lanzarote a 0-1 advantage.

Javi Martín then struck a beauty from 25 yards but for the fourth time this season his effort struck the crossbar.

At the end of the half Lanzarote and particularly new boy Canillas got just reward for their efforts. Santi Rosa fed an intelligent pass to the tall striker and he cleverly brushed his defender aside before waiting for the keeper to commit then he gently chipped the ball over the keeper into the empty net to give his side a 0-2 halftime lead and his first goal for his new club.

Ten minutes into the second half and Lanzarote had the chance to wrap up the points. Traoré flew past the defence and attempted to go round the keeper but the goalkeeper managed to get a hand on the ball and the chance was gone.

The Gran Canarian side were improving as time went by and with 12 minutes remaining scored with a powerful header from a corner kick to reduce the deficit to 1-2.

Lanzarote were now under the cosh as Santa Brígida went in search of a draw. The Rojillos character was enormous as they stood firm to win a brilliant three points.
