PRE SEASON BEGINS

What a difference a year makes. Last season UD Lanzarote´s preparation began at the Costa Teguise golf course due to the stadium being closed because of Covid.

Whilst the beautiful surroundings of a golf course are spectacular they are certainly not ideal for preparing for a tough season in Spain’s Tercera Division (Fourth Tier).

Yesterday evening, players, management and directors gathered to listen to a short speech by club President Juan Carlos Albuixech. He greeted all the players new and old and emphasized the clubs desire for promotion to Segunda B (Third Tier). He said “last season was difficult with all the restrictions that were put in place by the authorities but that is in the past, there will be no excuses for this campaign”.

Several players were missing from training due to the club giving them extended time off but all are expected to rejoin the group next week.

The training session was led by the physical coach Aythami Rodríguez under the instructions of the new manager Mateo García and included many of last season’s players, new arrivals, several juniors and a few trialists.

The atmosphere was extremely good with laughs being shared with club directors interacting with the management and players and the whole evening was in complete contrast to last season when the club didn’t know if they could train from one day to the next.

The players will be training every evening Monday to Friday and on Saturday a trial game will take place mainly involving newly signed players, trialists and juniors.
