LANZAROTE   0   CD BUZANADA 1

The Rojillos begin the first phase of the six game playoffs with a defeat leaving them with a mountain to climb for promotion to Segunda B (Third Tier) even with the playoffs in their infancy.

Lanzarote began the match with a spring in their step enjoying the lion’s share of possession but found it hard to break down the Tenerife defence.

In the 11th minute winger Adrián Machín struck a difficult ball well across the goal forcing the keeper to save low, the loose ball rolled along the six yard line but a Buzanada defender reacted first and cleared the danger.

Four minutes later and the same player hit a strike from the edge of the area following good work by Ayoze Pérez but his effort went inches over the crossbar.

Rosmen had a couple of half chances but on the half hour the Rojillos had their best opportunity of the first half to take the lead. Striker Giovanni chased down a defender and stole the ball, with his back to goal he cleverly back heeled and this set Miguel Gómez in full flight, holding off the defender and from a narrow angle he managed to loft the ball over the keeper only to see it roll along the face of goal and wide of the far post.

The visitors offered very little in the opening 45 minutes but there were signs of their class with winger Jou causing problems for the Rojillos defenders.

With the way the playoff league has been structured and with Lanzarote already sitting at the bottom, the Rojillos knew that only a win would realistically see them with a chance to advance.

For the opening stages of the second period Lanzarote looked lethargic and lacked ideas on how to break down the Tenerife defence. Buzanada sensed this weakness and began upping their game.

Ten minutes into the second half and errors in attack, midfield and defence led to Lanzarote´s downfall. Unusual sloppy play gifted striker Pirri a clean strike at goal from the edge of the area. One person certainly not a fault for the goal was keeper Alejandro as he could only be a spectator as the ball whistled past him and into the top right hand corner as the visitors went 0-1 in front.

In the 65th minute the Tenerife side came close to extending their lead when a free kick went inches wide of the left hand post. Lanzarote began playing with more intensity but were finding it difficult against a well organised defence.

Luck was not on the Rojillos side. Buzanada should have been reduced to ten men. An off the ball kick by a defender on Rosmen was seen by all in the stand and seemed shockingly obvious, however both the officials were near the incident and must have failed in seeing the assault.

In the 78th minute a great swerving strike by Miguel Gopar flew inches over the crossbar as Lanzarote piled on the pressure. Deep into stoppage time Keita floated a ball into the penalty area, Joshua chested the ball into the path of sub Abdoulaye but his strike on goal was superbly smothered down by the Tenerife keeper.

Lanzarote´s slim chances of fighting for the next stage of promotion have got even slimmer after this defeat. To see how Lanzarote stand in this mini league click on this link   https://futbolme.com/resultados-directo/torneo/tercera-division-gr.12-grupo-d/3006/
