LAS PALMAS C 2 LANZAROTE 1, 3rd November 2018

 LAS PALMAS C   2   LANZAROTE   1,   3rd November 2018,

The Rojillos poor start to the season continues as they are beaten once again in added on time and sink to 14th position in the table.

The home side took the lead on the half hour but Lanzarote captain Rosmen made sure his team went into the break on level terms when he scored on the stroke of half time.

Las Palmas had a player sent off for their second yellow card with ten minutes remaining but in added on time they won a dubious free kick in excess of 20 yards out.

There was absolutely nothing dubious about the strike from defender Stephane as he let rip a bending right foot effort right into the top right hand corner to give his side all three points.

After winning the first two matches of the season Lanzarote´s form has been shocking. Five defeats in the opening eleven games sees the Rojillos drift to seven points from a playoff spot and a further two points from league leaders UD Tamaraceite.

Rather than looking up the table Lanzarote can look down and see that only three points separates them from the relegation positions.

What is happening? Half the squad is new and when lady luck is not on your side it is extremely hard to turn it around. Two defeats in added on time in recent weeks and confidence within the squad begins to fade.

On the positive side no team in this division is finding it easy. Three teams are tied on 21 points at the top after eleven matches and Lanzarote managed to come back in the final third of last season in a worse position than this and achieve a playoff finish.

The season is not a 100 yard sprint but rather a marathon though the management, players and supporters must unite immediately to stop this rot.

Manager Maxi Barrera will be under pressure but he will be secure in the knowledge that he has the backing of the management, players and fans and is determined that the tide will turn soon.
