LANZAROTE 5 SD TENISCA 0

LANZAROTE   5   SD TENISCA   0,    30th December 2017.

A second half wonder show will send the Rojillos into the New Year in high spirits and just one point from a playoff position and now just six points from top spot.

Starting XI with plenty of helpers.

If ever there was a time for the saying “A game of two halves” then today was the day. The La Palma side dominated the first half but were torn to shreds in a seven minute period early in the second half with Lanzarote scoring three goals as well as striking the woodwork.

The Rojillos created the first opportunity in the 7th minute with the ever threatening Miguel Gómez firing just over from the crossbar.

Another cracking winters afternoon in Arrecife.

From then on the La Palma side had Lanzarote by the throats and chasing the game. In the space of two minutes the side managed by Lanzarote´s ex manager Adolfo Pérez had two clear cut opportunities to go in front. On both occasions the Rojillos keeper Alejandro produced excellent low saves from striker Adib.

Our pot of Gold, Antonio.

Lanzarote´s midfield put in overtime as another ex Rojillo Mauri was a constant threat down the left and through the centre. In certain stages of games teams have to pull together and even though the Rojillos were under the cosh they still battled and wanted the ball.

No doubt all of Alejandro´s team mates would of thanked him for keeping their side in the game at half time as he made another excellent save midway through the opening period saving from close range and injuring himself in the process.

Alejandro with a brilliant first half performance.

The Rojillos had a couple of half chances with Alex Cruz, Rosmen and Miguel Gómez but nothing on target as they crawled into half time grateful for a 0-0 score line.

The second half and with the introduction of captain Ayoze Pérez things dramatically changed. In the first minute Alex Cruz was denied only by an excellent save from the Tenisca captain Aarón but this only served to show him what was in store for his team.

The dominant Ayoze Pérez.

Now came the whirlwind. Lanzarote´s excellent coach Adolfo Pérez for the past five seasons had surprised the Rojillos in the first half with a full scale attack but with nothing to show for it he would now have to face the retaliation.

Not a great return for ex Lanzarote manager Adolfo Pérez.

In the 47th minute Rosmen controlled the ball with his chest on the edge of the box and on the turn hit a belter low into the bottom right hand corner not giving the keeper a chance and send his side 1-0 up.

A couple of minutes later the woodwork was rattled following a delightful move down the right wing then in the 53rd minute a header by Javi Betancort from an Ayoze Pérez corner gave the Conejeros (locals) a 2-0 advantage.

Just a minute later a magnificent cross from the left by Alex Cruz towards the penalty spot was just inviting a diving header. In all my years of watching Lanzarote I cannot imagine a better player than Rosmen in those situations. The reborn giant of a centre forward powered the ball home to score his second and his sides third to kill off the game within only nine minutes of the restart.

A cracker of a cross from Alex Cruz with Rosmen about to nod home.

The La Palma side then for a period took stock of what had happened and became tighter in their leaky defence in order to stop the flood.

In the 80th minute the leak was reopened. The Substitute Javi Trujillo broke down the left wing and from a narrow angle tried his luck at goal when maybe the better option would have been to square the ball, however whatever the Rojillos were touching was turning to gold and the save from the keeper fell kindly back to Trujillo who nodded across the goal for Kamara to tap home to give Lanzarote a 4-0 lead.

Kamara, not only a great defender but always pops up with an odd goal. Today it was Lanzarote´s fourth.

A minute later and Miguel Gómez was through on goal but his effort was kicked off the goal line though in the 87th minute Trujillo finished off another terrific move down the right expertly side footing the ball low into the right hand corner to complete a great days work with a belter of a score line at 5-0.

Have some of that on a sunny afternoon.

After the match players, officials and helpers all toasted in the forthcoming New Year with a glass of bubbly much like Manchester City at Old Trafford but in the sun.

Happy New Year from all at U.D. Lanzarote.

Lanzarote´s next match is away and is the local derby versus U.S. Yaiza and is confirmed for Sunday 7th January at 12 noon kick off at the village of Yaiza.
