Lanzarote have now qualified for the playoffs for Segunda B (League 1) for the second year running but failing to win against the league´s second from bottom club will not be how they would have liked to celebrate.

Sunday’s line up.

The Rojillos were desperate for all three points as league leaders Santa Brígida and second placed side Las Palmas B had already played the evening before. The in form Santa Brígida cruised to a 3-0 home win against 14th placed side Unión Viera whilst Las Palmas B dropped two points in a goalless draw against 15th placed CF Arucas.

All this means that Lanzarote´s chances of finishing top and qualifying for the Copa Del Rey (F.A. Cup) next season have been dealt an almighty blow. UD Villa Santa Brígida are now four points clear of the Rojillos with just 3 games remaining.

Las Palmas B remain one point ahead of Lanzarote and finishing second does give you a so called advantage of playing one of the weaker teams in the playoffs with the away Leg first.

The game itself was pretty much how this report is written, disappointing! Some described this game as the worst performance of the season but in true honesty those people are just disappointed. The Rojillos completely dominated the match with two good penalty shouts turned down and a super Miguel Gómez strike flying off the woodwork. It was one of those games that just was not going our way.

The visitors defended with brutal force at times and did exaggerate a lot of injuries however the ref did account for seven minutes added on time though the Tenerife side did their job well of stop, starting play and were good value for their point. I doubt if that single point will do them any good as they are seven points from safety with three games remaining and are doomed to relegation.

This has been a great season; very rarely do you see a bad home performance and the Rojillos have increased this spectacular record of theirs to 39 games since tasting a home defeat.

The playoffs are secured and we all know that there will be a big crowd for the first home playoff match. The atmosphere will be electric, the vocal support of the foreign fans has got louder which is hugely appreciated by the Conejeros (locals, rabbit hunters) and this has seemed to have spurred them on for a song or two. However you make yourself heard it doesn’t matter, just do it as loudly as possible as perfected by Simon Gibbs and his band of merry men.

Next week the Rojillos have a tough away match in Tenerife against fifth placed side Las Zocas and a week later will be the last home league match of the season versus UD Ibarra.

Shortly we will be able to vote for Player of the Year and voting will take place on Facebook (Lanzarote football club) in the next few days.
