C.D SANTA ÚRSULA 3 U.D LANZAROTE 2

CD SANTA ÚRSULA   3   LANZAROTE   2,

16th April 2016,

It has been an awful weekend for the Rojillos, they began as league leaders and by Sunday 2pm they were in third spot.

Second placed Santa Brígida and third placed Las Palmas B both leapfrog Lanzarote who now trail top spot by two points with four games remaining.

All started great for the league leaders as they found themselves 0-1 up in only the third minute with another great left foot strike from the edge of the area by Miguel Gómez.

The Tenerife side levelled 10 minutes later when the Lanzarote defence was caught napping and midfielder Juanqui tucked the ball home.

Both keepers were kept busy in a fast moving game. Rojillos keeper Agoney scrambled away an outrageous volley from inside his own half by midfielder Guti, shortly after the Lanzarote players and bench were outraged when midfielder Marcos Cabrera was through on goal and was pulled back, the Rojillos were certain they were going to be awarded a penalty which in turn would have given the ref no option but also to have red carded the last defender. The official chose to let play continue as the visitors felt hard done by.

Five minutes before the break and Miguel Gómez crossed and found Mauri, the Colombian then beat his defender and lifted the ball over the keeper to give his side a 1-2 advantage to take into the half time break.

Mauri had an opportunity to increase the score just after the interval but then the home side gained in confidence by winning possession and seeing more of the ball.

In the 66th minute Guti laid on the ball to Juanqui from an indirect free kick and the midfielder fired through the wall from the edge of the area to bring the score level at 2-2.

Ten minutes from time it was horror for Lanzarote as the ref gave a penalty to the home side for a foul by Miguel Gómez. Sub Nauzet fired the spot kick to give his side a 3-2 win and start a dreadful weekend for the Rojillos.

Santa Brígida are now top with 69 points following a very good 2-4 away win versus 6th placed side CD Cotillo and Las Palmas B have moved up to second on 68 points with a tough home win versus fifth placed UD San Fernando. Lanzarote remain on 67 points after suffering just their third loss of the season.

This Sunday the Rojillos are home versus second from bottom UD Cruz Santa. Lanzarote must make it 39 home games since defeat but also five home wins on the bounce. Leaders Santa Brígida host lowly Unión Viera whilst Las Palmas B are away in a local derby versus CF Arucas.
