C.D. TENERIFE B 1 LANZAROTE 0

C.D. TENERIFE B   1   LANZAROTE   0,       21st Feb 2016,

With just four points taken out of a possible 15 the Rojillos still remain top but only by the skin of their teeth. A five point gap just a few weeks ago has been reduced to goal difference and only a single point separates the top four sides.

The first half was played at an intense pace on a fast natural grass surface with both sides enjoying equal amount of possession. The first period ended goalless though either team could have gone in front with the amount of chances created.

For the opening 15 minutes of the second period Lanzarote were on top and were beginning to look the more dangerous however all that changed when defender Raúl picked up his second yellow card and the Rojillos were forced to play the remaining third of the match with ten men.

The hosts then had a couple of good opportunities however in the 71st minute the Lanzarote defence were unable to clear the ball after a free kick and the ball ping ponged in the area and was eventually headed home at the far post by midfielder Adrián Plaza to give his side a 1-0 lead.

The ten men of Lanzarote were still in this match and were still creating chances but were just unable to finish their good build up play.

With seven minutes remaining things got a lot worse for the visitors when new boy Acai received his second yellow card leaving his side with just nine players.

Sub Javi Melián came close late on to salvaging a point and striker Rosmen in the final minute of added on time was a whisker away of maintaining Lanzarote´s 14 match unbeaten run.

Second, third and fourth placed sides SD Tenisca, Las Palmas B and Santa Brígida all took maximum points to close the gap and Lanzarote still have to visit the first two.

The Rojillos will need to come out of this bad spell urgently and confirmed for this Sunday 28th Feb at 12 noon they will have their chance against C.D. Marino who are just goal difference away from the relegation positions.

Lanzarote are going to be without three suspended players and their influential striker Mauri looks a serious doubt as he arrived back in Lanzarote sitting in a wheelchair.
