ARUCAS CF 1 LANZAROTE 1

ARUCAS CF   1   LANZAROTE   1        6TH Feb 2016

Captain Rosmen earns his side a draw with his 10th goal of the season as his team comes from behind to remain undefeated for the last 13 matches.

Importantly Lanzarote has not been beaten for a while though with three draws in their last three games it has allowed other sides to close the gap at the top.

Fortunately for the Rojillos it doesn’t look as though the other teams want to capitalise on Lanzarote´s lost points as they still have a healthy three point gap at the top. Second and third placed sides Tenisca and Las Palmas B both drew at home against teams in the bottom half though Fuerteventura side CD Cotillo moved up to within four points following a thumping 6-0 home win versus bottom club Atl Granadilla.

The first half versus 15th placed side CF Arucas was a quiet affair with both sides having chances but failing to hit the target.

Two minutes before the break and the home side took the lead. Good work from winger Iván Pérez beating two Lanzarote players and pulling the ball back from the by line allowing striker Ayoze to slot the ball home to give his side a 1-0 advantage to take into the break.

Lanzarote´s mindset for the second half completely changed as they dominated proceedings. In the opening minute Louis Kennedy fed midfielder Marcos Cabrera and whilst goal looked a dead cert a defender managed to block the shot.

Lanzarote were now well on top and had stretched the Gran Canarian defence to breaking point. Finally in the 70th minute Marcos Cabrera crossed the ball to Rosmen and the captain made no mistake nodding the ball home to level the score at 1-1.

The Rojillos now pressed to find the winner and only a couple of minutes after scoring Marcos Cabrera pulled the ball back to winger Toñito, he found sub Javi Melián on the far post but unfortunately the striker blasted over the bar.

In the dying seconds midfielder Javi Betancort came ever so close to earning the league leaders all three points but his effort came flying off the crossbar and away for a goal kick.

Next week Lanzarote have a chance of creating history. They have already equalled their record of 33 home games unbeaten so as long as they don’t lose against CD Vera the record will be theirs.

By no means is this a foregone conclusion as the Tenerife side have found form as late and are themselves unbeaten in their last seven matches. This has eased any relegation worries pushing them up to 12th spot in the league table.

Due to Carnival this match has been brought forward a day so the match has been confirmed for Saturday 13th February with a 12.30pm kick off.
