A dramatic 94th minute penalty converted by captain Rosmen sees his side claim all three points which maintains the Rojillos 100% home record this season.

The Conejeros (locals) dominated the early part of the match though it wasn’t until the 11th minute until the first strike of goal. Rosmen controlled the ball just inside the area and Brad fired in a shot which was palmed away by the Tenerife goalkeeper for a corner.

The visitors looked threatening from set pieces and in the 15th minute a free kick from the left found the head of ex Rojillo Faruk but his effort sailed over the woodwork.

Lanzarote were winning the battle in midfield with novice Brad Cockerill and the experienced Marcos Cabrera taking charge. The latter was unlucky when his strike from the edge of the area whistled over the bar.

The Rojillos held the majority of the possession but lacked ideas in the final third as the first half came to a close.

The second half began similar to how the first 45 minutes ended with the Rojillos retaining possession but the newly promoted side were showing that they were looking comfortable in a higher league with their mid table position.

The visitors had a good opportunity to take the lead when the ball fell to defender Vicente on the far post but his strike did not trouble the Lanzarote keeper.

This helped the Rojillos move up a gear. In the 58th minute great team play initiated by British boy Brad who won the ball in midfield and fed striker Mauri , he then crossed for winger Toñito but his shot came crashing off the woodwork for a free kick.

Lanzarote were now mounting the pressure and in the 61st minute Rosmen robbed the ball off a defender and superbly placed his strike wide of the keeper’s left hand post and saw his shot fly in off the woodwork giving his side a deserved 1-0 lead.

The Rojillos maintained the pressure but as the clock ticked down they became defence minded and dropped back. Relief came in the 86 minute when the home side were reduced to 10 men for an off the ball offence from striker Iván.

Losing 1-0 and with just a few minutes to go this gave an injection of gust to the visitors and Lanzarote were made to pay. A dangerous low cross from the left in the 89th minute found sub Tello who poked the ball home which looked as though it would earn his side a share of the points.

The Rojillos response was to launch everything forward. In the 94th minute a free kick from the left floated in by Marcos Cabrera dropped dangerously in the six yard box, as the fans screamed urging the ball into the net, a push on Rosmen was seen by the Ref who ordered a spot kick.

The officials who had had a great game letting strong challenges take place as well as playing advantage failed to do in this instance. The ball hit the back of the net but as the Ref had already blown a penalty kick was ordered.

Everyone waited anxiously but they didn’t need to have bothered as once again the man of the match Rosmen blasted the ball into the left hand corner sealing four home wins out of four for his side.

It’s been great to see so many foreign fans attending the game. Jos from Belgium turned up again this season for his one match and again bought his season ticket. All the lads and manager Adolfo appreciate this. The crew of St Johnstone supporters, Celtic, Birmingham City and even Bob Campbell with his merry bunch of mates improving the bar takings are all noted. It was a pleasure dropping you guys back.

I even met a German lad who met his Italian mate on holiday. They both arrived from their respective countries at 10am Sunday morning, threw their bags into their room and straight to the match. Quality!

Lanzarote will have a difficult trip next week as they travel to league leaders and title favourites CD Marino in Tenerife.
