UNIÓN SUR YAIZA   1   LANZAROTE   0

20th September 2014

A goal from a set play ten minutes into the second half settled this disappointing Lanzarote derby. This is the fifth game these sides have played against each other in the Tercera Division (Fourth Tier) and Lanzarote have just picked up a single point.

The Rojillos were very optimistic prior to the match with their unbeaten run still intact but with a Yaiza side who never let Lanzarote settle on the ball for a second it was always going to be a set play that would decide the outcome of this match.

It may have been a 4.45pm kick off but the heat did not relent as these two teams set about their business.  Much of the early stages were battled out in midfield and it wasn’t until the 20th minute for the first strike to be hit in anger. Yaiza´s midfielder Juanca´s tame effort comfortably found the arms of the Rojillos keeper Agoney.

Four minutes later and Falo for the Rojillos forced the home keeper into a good save. Once again central midfielder Falo had another good opportunity in the dying seconds of the first half but his effort was deflected away for a corner.

Lanzarote looked marginally the better of the two sides going into the break with the game goalless.

Ten minutes into the second half and a long throw by ex Rojillo Kamara was chested down well by striker Ubay and the Yaiza frontman hit a half volley low into the bottom right hand corner giving Agoney no chance and sending his side into a 1-0 lead.

Lanzarote tried to get back into the match but the home side were like a set of flies around any Rojillo player. Francis came close with a header but failed to hit the target and good play between Kennedy and Ángel Gil ended when the latter skied the ball towards the volcanoes of Timanfaya.

It was only when sub Toñito was introduced with just over ten minutes to play that Lanzarote began playing with any bite but the home side did their job defending in numbers and claimed all three points yet again.

Yaiza leapfrog Lanzarote into third spot whilst the Rojillos slip to sixth. Lanzarote´s next home game is this Sunday 28th September at 12 noon in Arrecife versus CF Estrella (Gran Canaria)
