LANZAROTE   1   CD TENERIFE B   2

The Rojillos fall out of the playoff positions and down to seventh following their third defeat on the bounce and are now two points from the fifth and final playoff spot.

Lanzarote began the game well and in the 9th minute Keita waltzed through the heart of the Tenerife defence and slipped a delightful pass to striker El Aarbi. The B team player replacing suspended Di Renzo almost had the perfect debut start. He correctly hit the ball first time and beat the keeper but his deft touch didn’t have enough on it as the ball shaved the far right hand post.

So close for a debut goal for El Aarbi.

In the 14th minute the visitors took the lead. A cross from the left found right back David completely free of his marker and he made no mistake heading low and powerful not giving keeper Alejandro a chance and Tenerife had a 0-1 advantage.

Lanzarote responded well and in the 22nd minute a great one two from Fabricio and Machín freed the latter to cross from the right, captain Ayoze Pérez rose well and directed his header with power from eight yards only to see the ball crash against the crossbar and away to safety.

On the half hour Alejandro picked up an injury and although he tried to continue he had to be replaced with Ruymán just before halftime.

The Rojillos came out for the second half with a lot more urgency to their play. Rodrigo was pushed up to centre forward and Javi Martín replaced the debutant El Aarbi and began to dictate play in midfield.

In the 51stminute Lanzarote had two incredible chances to level. Fabricio fired in a low drive from 12 yards that looked destined for the bottom right hand corner however the ball hit the inside of the post but straight to Ayoze Pérez. The Lanzarote skipper immediately fired in a half volley from around the penalty spot but the Tenerife keeper at full stretch made a superb save to his left to deny a certain goal.

Ayoze Pérez forcing the Tenerife keeper into a great save.

Keita had a half chance in the 71st minute but with his back to goal he didn’t realize that he had time to take a touch so his first time effort was easily gathered by the keeper.

Five minutes later and a deep corner from Ayoze was headed back across goal from centre back Agoney which caused chaos in the Tenerife defence. Rodrigo managed to pounce first and did well to wrap his foot round the ball and smash it into the roof of the net to level at 1-1.

Short lived celebrations for goal scorer Rodrigo

I had only just pressed post on my phone to update the goal on the Lanzarote Football Club Facebook page when the visitors went back in front. Striker Lie found himself on a one on one with keeper Ruymán and with Lanzarote´s defence in disarray he shot and although the Lanzarote keeper got part of his body to the ball it wasn’t enough. Ruymán could only look behind and agonizingly watch the ball crawl over the line to restore the Tenerife lead to 1-2.

Lanzarote kept pressing and in the 4th minute of added on time had a strong penalty claim denied when a sliding challenge on Rojillos winger Traoré was deemed a fair challenge by the official. Lanzarote couldn’t find an equaliser as they suffered losing their playoff status with this third consecutive defeat.

Both the B teams of UD Las Palmas and CD Tenerife leapfrog Lanzarote into fifth and sixth spot respectively whilst Lanzarote slip to seventh and two points away from the playoff positions.

Next Sunday Lanzarote travel to the south of Tenerife and face the much improved CD Marino. After the opening five games they were bottom with just a point but now they have climbed up to 11th position and are six points clear of the relegation positions.
