UD TELDE 1 LANZAROTE 1

UD TELDE   1   LANZAROTE   1     22nd Nov 2015,

The Rojillos were just a few minutes away from taking home maximum points however an away point against your nearest rivals who had won five of their last six matches whilst drawing the other is more than acceptable.

This game will be more remembered for the passion and ruggedness rather than the beauty of its football as tempers flared on the terrible cut up artificial pitch. Both teams stood toe to toe for the full 90 minutes and a draw seemed a fair and good result especially as other rivals failed to capitalise on dropped points leaving Lanzarote a point clear at the top of the league.

It was clear from the outset that both teams were not going to hold back and were desperate to claim all three points. Rosmen was the first to strike at goal after some good team play but his effort was wide then striker Dani Ojeda replied for the Gran Canarian side with a strike on the turn which the Lanzarote keeper Agoney was forced to produce a good save.

The same player for the home side produced a solo move coming in from the wing though his effort was easily blocked for a corner. On the half hour mark Rojillos striker Javi Melián should have done better with his shot around the penalty spot but his strike flew way over the bar.

In the 41st minute Rosmen sprinted down the right wing and crossed the ball, Toñito laid the ball back into the path of Javi Melián and this year’s promising new signing hit the ball home to give Lanzarote a 0-1 half time lead.

There was no change of play in the second half with both teams having chances to score. Fifteen minutes into the second half and Lanzarote had a wonderful opportunity to double their lead. Striker Mauri made a good run down the wing and delivered an excellent cross for Toñito. Lanzarote´s in form winger had the goal at his mercy but put his header wide when the keeper was in no man’s land.

As the game developed anxieties between the two teams grew and the Referee was forced to produce yellow cards on many occasions.

Lanzarote had had the better of the opportunities and really should have been further ahead and as we all know if you don’t take these opportunities you will be made to pay.

With just four minutes remaining and Lanzarote looking as though they were comfortable the home side were awarded a free kick central and 10 yards outside the box.  As the ball was crossed in the Rojillos got themselves into a terrible defensive mix up which allowed sub Leandro to get the tiniest of flicks to the ball to send it past the Lanzarote keeper to level the score at 1-1.

The Gran Canarian side boosted by this good fortune went in search of the winner but Lanzarote managed to weather the storm and return home with their point and still top of the league.

Next Sunday Lanzarote are at home at 12 noon versus CD Santa Úrsula. The Tenerife side are in 15th spot though a win could easily put them in a mid table position, Lanzarote however will be looking to extend their unbeaten home run to 29 matches edging closer to the record of 33 set back in the mid 90´s.
