CF ESTRELLA 1 LANZAROTE 1

CF ESTRELLA   1   LANZAROTE   1, 15th February 2015

Lanzarote come back from a goal down and draw level four minutes from time through midfielder Marcos Cabrera to earn a point on his managers 42nd birthday. Happy birthday Adolfo!

This was never going to be an easy trip to Gran Canaria because not only historically have Lanzarote not done well away against CF Estrella but also the Gran Canarian side are unbeaten in their previous five outings.

In the early stages both sides had equal possession but it was the Lanzarote Captain Rosmen who came closest with his effort hitting the post.

Mid way through the first half and it was the home side who took the lead. A cross from winger Victor took a deflection off defender Falo and the hosts found themselves 1-0 up.

Each side had good opportunities in an open match though the local team went into the half time break with the narrow advantage.

In previous seasons you had a feeling after going a goal down that Lanzarote would be mighty fortunate to come away with a draw but now with the team oozing with confidence you have a feeling that they will return with all three points.

Fifteen minutes into the second period and Marcos Cabrera came close with a free kick and a few minutes later striker Yaco had a goal disallowed for a hotly disputed offside decision.

With Lanzarote pushing forward in search of an equaliser the locals had a good chance to double their advantage. On the break Yeray Sosa was put through with just the keeper to beat but stand in goalkeeper Rayco stood tall as the midfielder put his effort wide.

With four minutes remaining Lanzarote were level. A free kick on the very edge of the area was awarded when a penalty had seemed more likely, nevertheless Marcos Cabrera having set his sights on his previous effort made no mistake with this strike to send his side level at 1-1.

The home side were reduced to 10 men in the final minute but this wasn’t sufficient time for the Rojillos to capitalize on their one man advantage.

The Rojillos travelled home content with a point and do remain in second spot though have slipped to three points behind league leaders CD Marino.

Next week’s match home match against 19th placed Atlético Victoria has been brought forward a day due to Carnival. The match has been confirmed for Saturday 21st Feb at 5pm kick off.
