SONGS FOR SARA 2021

It’s unusual that I ever promote anything else on this page other than UD Lanzarote however this Saturday 15th May from 12 noon Lanzarote musicians will be performing for 8 hours online to raise funds for SARA (The islands largest animal shelter) on their Facebook page “Songs For Sara 2021”.

Many people do believe that it is more important to help humans and of course this is true though during this pandemic the animals from this island have been largely forgotten and funding is almost nonexistent.

If you have visited the UD Lanzarote stall at Teguise market on a Sunday you may have noticed the SARA stall next to us. The volunteers for SARA put in a hard shift up there and the money that they raise, normally between 200-300 Euros was invaluable to keep the dogs and cats with food and shelter. Even though the Teguise market is back, the charity organisations have not yet been offered a return to their stalls.

Due to most bars being closed the collection boxes which had been vital to SARA are empty. Many people have had to leave the island over the past year often leaving their animals outside SARA´s shelter in Tahiche and others just cannot afford to feed their pets so abandon them.

It is a heart breaking situation though many caring people have got together to organise this event. Local businesses have offered over 100 prizes with more expected. Anybody who contributes 5 Euros will automatically have a ticket in the draw and 10 Euros for two tickets etc. To enter please click on https://gofund.me/301e5591.

Ironically kicking off this event is none other than the voice of David Timmons. The Irishman is very well known on this island and was instrumental in raising 53,000 Euros for the charity Emerlan to feed the many people who did not qualify from government funding. David has also become an invaluable Director of UD Lanzarote and is 100% behind this event.

The photos attached are my family’s pets, Ted our dog with Jack our cat. During the financial crisis a wonderful couple were about to give Ted to SARA as they were forced to leave the island. We took him on and it has to be up there with one of the best decisions that I have ever made. He is now almost 14 years old and is still our Puppy Dog. With Ted is his best mate Jack who my son Oscar chose from SARA around six years ago. As you can see they are as one.

Please feel free to comment and post a picture of your family pets. If you can spare a few Euros I assure you that your money will be well spent looking after these animals that gives us humans so much joy.
