LANZAROTE 3 CD U.S.YAIZA 0

LANZAROTE   3   CD U.S.YAIZA   0, 8th February 2015

This was a great derby match; plenty of action, some great quality football, four red cards and a derby match just wouldn’t be complete without the traditional full on brawl.

This win puts the Rojillos just one point behind league leaders CD Marino who lost their first game of the season on Sunday. Incredibly Lanzarote are now 14 points clear of fifth spot and as there are only four teams in the play offs Lanzarote must now surely focus on top spot to claim a Copa Del Rey place for next season. If any of you do not know Lanzarote´s cup history just click on history at the top of this page and all shall be revealed.

The game began at a very good pace and did not relent for the full 90 minutes which delighted the biggest crowd of the season with 1200 spectators . In the 6th minute a superb in swinging free kick delightfully floated into the box and was met by the towering figure of Lanzarotes Captain Rosmen. The league’s top scorer timed his jump to perfection and guided the ball with the weight of the free kick into the top corner giving his side an early 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later and the Rojillos were inches away from doubling their advantage when Toñito cut inside and from 20 yards hit a low powerful shot that beat the keeper but unfortunately for the Lanzarote winger it hit the left hand post and away for a goal kick.

In the 16th minute the Rojillos had a wonderful opportunity when the impressive Yaco hit in a low cross and Yaiza defender Kamara went to ground and raised his hand which the ball struck and the Ref immediately pointed to the spot. The tall central defender was lucky to stay on the pitch as he already had a yellow card and could have easily been given his second for this offence.

The ever reliable Rosmen stepped up looking for his 21st goal of the season and sent the keeper the wrong way but the ball flew off the post and away to safety.

The fourth placed side only real effort of the first half came shortly after when a free kick from 20 yards was deflected off a Lanzarote defender and all they earned was a corner kick.

The Rojillos didn’t have to wait long to get their reward for such positive football and what a reward it was. Yaco fed man of the match Mauri on the edge of the box and the Colombian danced around a defender and then took on the long legs of Yaiza defender Kamara. Some quick close footwork completely lost his marker then the striker curved the ball around keeper Ruymán and into the far corner of the net to make the score 2-0.

Our southern neighbours looked deflated but with the likes of ex Lanzarote legend Oscar Vladimir in your side you will never be defeated until the ref blows. The player that once levelled for Lanzarote versus Real Madrid and hero of many cup matches was undoubtedly the best player for the visitors.

The Yaiza manager saw his side were in disarray and was forced into a substitution in only the 27th minute. Things only got worse for the away side because in the 35th minute striker Fouad picked up his second yellow card and was off or an early shower.

Lanzarote seemed to drop a gear for the remaining 10 minutes as the sides went into the break with the Rojillos looking well worthy of their 2-0 lead.

Early in the second half and Lanzarote began to sit back as the visitors pressed forward. This was a wise move by the Lanzarote manager Adolfo Pérez as on the break his side are devastating.

Knowing that Yaiza might well justify their fourth spot in the league table but also knowing that they are the league’s third worst scorers, whilst his side have scored 10 goals more than anyone else he had good reason to be confident. It would have taken an almighty effort for the visitors to get back into this game.

A good effort which was the first on target for the visitors from striker Ubay was well saved by the Lanzarote goalkeeper Agoney. The game did become a little edgy and in the 74th minute a tackle between midfielders Juanca and Brad resulted in a free for all.

The Ref stood back and just took note of what was happening. When temperatures began to cool the Lanzarote keeper received a straight red so did Juanca for the visitors. Englishman Brad can find himself unlucky that after all this he was given his second yellow as both teams were reduced to nine men apiece.

Ten minutes from time and Lanzarote produced a stunning goal. Mauri beat a couple of defenders then pulled the ball back for Echedey and in the style reminiscent of Teddy Sheringham´s pass for Shearer versus Holland, just lost the defenders with a dummy pass for his Captain and Rosmen slotted the ball home leaving the Yaiza defence in tatters and his side with a well deserved 3-0 victory.

Nobody could have foreseen at the beginning of the season with 13 home games played Lanzarote would have 10 victories and drawn the other 3. This young team are getting better and better but next week they face another big test in Gran Canaria. Estrella CF may be languishing near the foot of the table but with 3 wins in the last 4 outings and the other a draw they are brimming with confidence.

The next home game might well be brought forward a day due to Carnival so check on Facebook Lanzarote football club or on here.
