SD TENISCA 1 LANZAROTE 1
25th August 2014
Whilst a draw is not the perfect start I am sure manager Adolfo Pérez and his red and blue army will be more than satisfied with their first point on the board especially after coming from behind with just two minutes remaining.
There were four debutants for the opening match of the season including 18 year old British boy Brad Cockerill who played from the start along with fellow Brit Louis Kennedy.
The La Palma side were hoping of a repeat of last season’s 1-0 victory over the Rojillos and in the opening minutes were going the right way about it with Lanzarote on the back foot. Within the first 10 minutes the home side had two very good chances to take the lead.
Fortunately similar to last season the Rojillo defence was solid but in the 13th minute midfielder Chema was chopped down inside the box and Tenisca were awarded a spot kick. Chema rose to his feet and buried the penalty kick to give the hosts a deserved 1-0 lead.
After the goal Tenisca kept the ball better but Lanzarote created the better opportunities. Striker Rosmen had two good chances in the final five minutes of the first half but despite his good pre season where he had netted regularly, on these two occasions he failed to hit the target, the score remained 1-0 at the break.
The second half began with a much higher tempo than the first with the home side edging possession.
In the 65th minute a defence splitting pass from Chema sent striker Memo through, this player has scored countless times versus the Rojillos for many different clubs and has he slipped the ball into the net he must have thought he had got another, that is until he saw the linesman waving his flag for offside to rule out his strike.
With just two minutes remaining a neat one two involving Toñito and Kennedy released Rosmen and Lanzarote´s top striker for the past few seasons was off the mark as he comfortably stroked the ball home to earn his side a very good away point.
Next Sunday 31st August Lanzarote play their first home match of the season versus last season’s champions Tenerife side Atlético Granadilla at 12 noon.
