UD REALEJOS 1 LANZAROTE 3

UD REALEJOS   1   LANZAROTE   3

25th August 2013

Three goals between brothers and strike partners Yaco and Rosmen Quevedo earn the Rojillos (The Reds) maximum points on their first outing of the season.

Both sides opened their campaign desperately in search of the first goal of the football year. In the 9th minute the Tenerife side found that goal. Good work from forward Santi found his strike partner on the far post and Nando had the easiest of touches to send his side into an early 1-0 lead.

Lanzarote immediately were looking to level the score. Yaco who has had a great pre season came close beating the keeper with a good strike only to see his effort fly back off the upright. On the half hour the game was all square. A trademark pinpoint free kick from Jotha found Yaco and he made no mistake heading the ball home to make the score 1-1.

The Rojillos rode their luck a little late in the half and only a fantastic save from keeper Agoney and a defensive clearance off the line prevented the home side going into the break with the lead.

The second half began at a good pace with both sides having good opportunities, the best of these was from the home side but another good save from the Lanzarote keeper kept the score level.

In the 54th minute Yaco picked up the ball inside the area and fired past the Tenerife keeper for his and his sides second of the game.

With the score 1-2 and with Lanzarote now dictating how the game should play decided to hold their lead and look for a counter attack opportunity. They didn’t have to wait long because five minutes later Lanzarote broke fast and Rosmen blasted in a half volley from the edge of the area to make the score 1-3 and give his side a little breathing space.

The home side’s heads did not drop and they were certainly not out of the match and kept pressing. A hand ball from Lanzarote defender Fran Gil gifted U.D. Realejos a penalty. Lanzarote keeper Agoney was not to be beaten as he saved the spot kick and produced a fine display of goalkeeping which can only boost his defensive back four.

Lanzarote were forced to play the final 15 minutes of play with just 10 men following a straight red card for midfielder Marcos Cabrera. Late on 19 year old Brit Louis Kennedy made his debut for Lanzarote and his first game in Spain’s fourth tier of football.

The Tenerife side fought till the end but each of their attacks was met by a determined and organised Lanzarote defence.

Three wonderful away points could not have started the season better for the Lanzarote manager Adolfo Pérez. Next Sunday 1st Sep at 12 noon his side play their first home game of the season versus a team who also earned maximum points on their first game, Tenerife side CD Laguna.

As I am sure that everyone now knows that the astro turf in Lanzarote´s home ground in Arrecife is being re-laid so Sundays home match as will the next one or two games will be played at the football stadium in Tias.
