UPDATE AND GENERAL INFO, 29th June 2019,
The new President Claudio Doreste and his board of directors have been working hard on signing players, backroom staff and management. They are all determined to bring together a squad who will be able to compete for promotion to Segunda B (Third Tier) for season 2019/20.
As with every season players and managers will come and go. Seven players have already reached an agreement to continue and they are goalkeeper Alejandro, defenders Javi Morales and Josito, midfielders Ayoze Pérez, Miguel Gómez and Nico González as well as striker Alex Yunes.
Many more are imminent as is a new manager and I will continue to update new arrivals on comments below as and when they are confirmed.
Players that have left the club include goalkeeper Agoney, defenders Dani García, Pedro Viera and Fran Gil along with midfielder Alberto Escudero. They have all performed admirably for the club and we wish them the very best for the future.
The club stall at Teguise Sunday market will continue throughout the summer as will the Friday market in the Old Town in Puerto Del Carmen. This Friday market though will be closed for the traditional three week fiesta on 19th and 26th July and also the 2nd of August.
Fixtures for the forthcoming season unfortunately are never released by the Spanish Football Federation until late July/early August and as soon as they are I will update on website and Facebook Lanzarote football club.
Season tickets (Abonos) and Socios (Membership) should be available late July and I will have them at the markets and also at a new shop which I will be opening on August 13th in Costa Teguise at Centro Comercial Nautical, Local 25 (opposite Pueblo Marinero square, behind Café Bonjour). Club merchandise, season tickets etc will all be available along with my wife’s business of school uniforms.
Currently the only website for the Rojillos (The Reds) is the one I produce on www.lanzarotefootball.com though there are plans to reopen an official website.
The club does have its own Facebook page U.D. Lanzarote and also there is also Peña Trifulka U.D. Lanzarote which is run by fan and the incredibly passionate Fran. Both these pages are in Spanish but can easily be translated on Google.
The Peña Trifulka fan club have organised a game today (Saturday 29th June at 6pm) between fans and ex UD Lanzarote players at the football pitch next to the public swimming pool in Arrecife. All are welcome.
Unfortunately I won’t make it as my wife wants to watch her native country Sweden take on Germany in the women’s World Cup quarter final versus Germany. We will then celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary with some fine dining.
A special mention of thanks to Kenny and Diane in Playa Blanca who put up the posters of matches in the bars down south and also Kevin and Kelly who help out in Puerto Del Carmen.
A huge appreciation to Carole who works with me and my dodgy knee a couple of days a month going around all the bars and hotels also promoting the club as well as helping with raffles and match mascots.
None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for Martin and Sarah Hancock who are the owners of Rooftops cinema in PDC and Colorworks in Tias that kindly produce the posters free of charge.
Beware all of you I will be pitching you all in August for much of the same this season.
On behalf of the club we wish to thank you all for your ever growing support confirming U.D. Lanzarote as the largest best supported club in the league. We hope you all have a great summer.
Viva Sarote!
