CD BUZANADA 0 LANZAROTE 4, 10th March 2019,
What a difference a week makes in football. Last Sunday the Rojillos dominated a match but just could not find a way through, seven days later and everything they touched turned to gold.
The Rojillos bossed this match as soon as the lady official Marta Huerta blew her whistle aided by her other two female assistants, Lanzarote were in control.
In the 16th minute centre back Luciano finished off a good move from the left, side footing the ball home from ten yards to put his side 0-1 up.
Only eight minutes later and the energetic Nico González made it 0-2 when he smashed the ball home from ten yards following another cross from the left.
A few minutes before the break and Alex Yunes stuck the ball into the bottom right hand corner from a penalty sending the keeper the wrong way.
Manager Maxi Barrera would have been delighted to see his team go in for their half time cuppa with a 0-3 advantage. This was against a team who had taken 13 points out of a possible 15 in their last five outings.
Only seven minutes into the second period and the game was effectively over. Often the unsung hero, the hardworking, unselfish Alex Yunes picked the ball up on the right and hit a thunderbolt from 20 yards into the top left hand corner and incredibly it was 0-4.
Lanzarote could afford to give all three substitutes a good run and it was wonderful to see the return of Miguel Gómez in the 66th minute from his ankle injury.
Miguel is the sort of player that can infuriate you. He loves running at defenders and will often take on one player too many as he did on two occasions during this match. Then his third run, he skipped over challenges and then has you on the edge of your seat as he fired in a cracking effort only for the keeper to produce an outstanding save.
Anyone who has seen Miguel play over the past few seasons will be delighted to see him back and bring on his explosive energy into any match. I am sure he will start on the bench this Saturday.
The pace of the match as you would expect started to slow down but it was a wonderful team performance especially from Rojillos playmaker Enrique Castaño (lead photo) who really got the team to tick.
The Rojillos were desperate for points from this match as rivals Santa Brígida won the day before but third placed CD Santa Úrsula slipped to fourth after dropping two points at home to bottom club CD El Cotillo.
The Rojillos now trail both of these teams by three points with ten games to go. The next home game is this Saturday 16th March at 12 noon versus third from bottom side SD Tenisca. This game was originally going to be played a day later but to assist the La Palma side with their flights Lanzarote agreed to switch date.
