LANZAROTE 1 CD CORRALEJO 0

10th February 2013

LANZAROTE   1   CD CORRALEJO   0

A goal midway through the second half by man of the match and Lanzarote striker Rosmen secures all three points against an unfortunate Fuerteventura side.

The game began with Corralejo holding possession with a stiff breeze to their backs but being unable to carve too many openings through the Rojillo defence. In the 15th minute a superb save by the Lanzarote goalkeeper Agoney denied the visitors the lead by saving with his legs whilst diving to his right from a shot from eight yards.

The only time the Rojillos looked threatening was when the ball was with Rosmen or winger Toñito otherwise Lanzarote were losing possession far too easily in a disappointing first half.

Just before the break danger man Toñito weaved his way brilliantly through the Fuerteventura defence and seemed to be clipped by the Corralejo defender, the Ref immediately pointed to the spot. The linesman waved his flag and after consultation with his superior, the Ref awarded a goal kick and a yellow card for Toñito for diving. The Lanzarote winger was devastated and kicked out at a kit bag illustrating his frustration which could have brandished another yellow card. Whilst I am sure it was a penalty Toñito does have this tendency to go down easily and it seems the officials have taken note.

On the balance of play the Rojillos were fortunate to go into the half time break on level pegging with their island neighbours.

Lanzarote stepped up a gear in the second half and should have gone in front early on when Rosmen sent Toñito clean through, the winger struck well but the visiting keeper Jero did well fisting the ball away to safety.

On the hour mark Rojillos midfielder Juanca who was beginning to put his stamp on the game was denied by the inspired Jero after firing goal bound from just outside the box.

Rosmen was having another great game for Lanzarote, anything being hoofed up to the tall striker was either being nodded on to a colleague or held up to keep possession similar to a good old fashioned British centre forward.

In the 66th minute the ball was crossed into the area and striker Echedey looked as though he had been brought down but whilst many were looking towards the official Rosmen was having none of it and belted the ball into the top corner which saved the Ref from having to make a decision and sent Lanzarote into a 1-0 lead.

The seventh placed side then steamed forward in search of an equalizer but despite their good swift passing the final ball was disappointing.

Rojillos manager surprisingly brought on British boy Ryan whereas possibly his thoughts should have been more defensive. This was an inspired decision from the Lanzarote boss as Ryan didn’t hang around to get involved in this match as he caused havoc for the Fuerteventura defence down the left flank giving his defence an all important breather.

Four minutes after coming on the local lad with British parents picked the ball up on the wing just inside his opponents half. He then gave the fans a taste of his blistering pace as he waltzed through the Corralejo defence and from being slightly off balance unleashed a ferocious effort which stunned the unexpectant crowd but again the Fuerteventura keeper reacted brilliantly and got a strong hand on the ball palming the shot away to safety.

Lanzarote defence remained strong for the final few minutes and held on to the full three points which maintains their 13th placed standing in the league table.

Next week the Rojillos have never been more certain of three points as the Gran Canarian side they were supposed to have been playing CD San Pedro Mártir have been pulled from the league for financial difficulties therefore Lanzarote are awarded the three points. Lanzarote´s next match is at home versus third placed Unión Viera at time to be confirmed.
