SEASON 2018/19 IS UNDERWAY, 21st July 2018,

SEASON 2018/19 IS UNDERWAY,   21st July 2018,

Pre season training begins this Monday 23rd July at 7.30pm. This is normally a light session and everyone is welcome to attend and see the majority of the squad which will be representing U.D. Lanzarote this season.

I have had so many people contact me asking for the fixture list but as always it doesn’t come out unfortunately until late July/early August, as soon as it does I will update the fixture list on www.lanzarotefootball.com and also post on Facebook. The first league match is expected to be on Sunday 26th August but it is unknown for the moment whether it will be home or away.

There have been many personal changes at the club including vice President Paulino Guedes taking over temporary running of the club from President Domingo Machín who is stepping down due to family reasons.

Season tickets will be available early August from the club or from me at the Teguise Sunday market on the clubs stall and are expected to be the same as last season with adults 50 Euros, Pensioners 25 Euros and children 18 years or under are free. Unfortunately the Puerto Del Carmen Friday market has been cancelled due to summer fiestas in the old town and is due to return on the 17th August.

Season tickets will be available early August from me at the clubs stall at the Sunday Teguise market.

For the first season ever Lanzarote will have a ladies team and will also see the return of the B team which has been missing from the club since the financial crisis. It’s great to see the club moving forward with both of these extremely important teams.

The annual beach open training session has not been announced as yet but it is likely to be in early August. This is where anybody is welcome to join the players in a fun training session on the beach and also to be involved in the photo shoot.

The club will probably have around seven or eight friendly matches before the season kicks off with the annual four team tournament in Tinajo normally around the end of July, the biggest pre season tournament is the San Gínes played at the home ground traditionally early August and also a new tournament in Puerto Del Carmen organised by PDC 2016 football club. As soon as these dates are confirmed I will update.

As with every season players come and go with Kamara, Raúl and Javi Melian heading back to Yaiza whilst Lanzarote will see a return of three former players coming from the opposite direction Fran Gil, Alex Yunes and Javi Morales all set on helping Lanzarote achieve a top four finish.

Other players who have left the club include Borja, Enrique Castaño, Trujillo, Marcos Cabrera, Cigala, Fede Manzi . Our young goalkeeper Sasha was expected to sign for a mainland club but surprisingly has signed for Gran Canarian side UD San Fernando whilst the hugely talented Gastón Cedrez has been recalled back from his loan spell from Las Palmas and is expected to be with their B team who are a league above Lanzarote in Segunda B. Good luck to you all.

Striker Alex Yunes, last seasons top scorer for Yaiza will be wearing red and blue this campaign.

Veteran striker Rosmen who rejoined the club last January and was instrumental in the teams push for a playoff finish has signed once more. Many people believe the tall striker who will be 38 years young in September is too old to play on but those people have no idea of his work ethic and attitude. Rosmen is a fantastic signing and many of our new young players will be looking up to this giant of a man both on the pitch and his personality off it.

The first and probably best signing of this season was to secure the services of our 36 year old manager Maxi Barrera. Maxi won many fans last season with his exciting style of play is determined to take Lanzarote into Segunda B (League 1).
