UD LAS ZOCAS 1 LANZAROTE 0, 17th December 2017,
The Rojillos remain in fifth spot but fall a further point away from the playoff positions to six points. Their second successive defeat of the season and has put a little dampener on what has been a good first half of the season up until now.
Lanzarote dominated the first half of the match backed by a strong wind but failed to break down the mid table sides stubborn defence.
Rosmen with his first start of the season since coming out of his retirement was closest to breaking the deadlock but his headed effort struck the crossbar whilst the Tenerife side relied on the counter attack but produced no threat in the first period.
The home side improved dramatically in the second half and dominated the opening ten minutes. In the 57th minute they were rewarded with a goal when a free kick delivered into the area was forced home by striker Pana Castilla despite claims from the Lanzarote players for a foul on goalkeeper Sasha.
A couple of minutes later Rojillos manager Maxi Barrera brought on top scorers Javi Trujillo and Alex Cruz to try and open up the Tenerife defence.
Lanzarote dominated the rest of the game but a combination of an organised defence and failing to produce clear chances resulted in the defeat.
The Rojillos do still have that game in hand on the teams above them and this will be played this Wednesday 20th December also in Tenerife versus Atlético Unión de Guimar. The 16th placed side have struggled in their debut season in this division and are just one point off the relegation positions.
There will be added pressure for the Rojillos as they know they must take points against sides like this if they are to stand any chance of a shot of promotion to Segunda B (League 1) as well as not making it a hat trick of losses.
This Saturday 23rd December Lanzarote are at home to CD Santa Úrsula at 12.30pm. The kick off time has been put forward 30 minutes to accommodate flights for the Tenerife side who are in 6th spot and level on points with the Rojillos.
Other island clubs Yaiza earned themselves a goalless point in La Palma and are 8th whilst Haria with their new manager José Labrador suffered a 1-3 home loss to fellow relegation candidates CD Buzanada. Lanzarote´s ex assistant manager will have a difficult job ahead of him as his new side have just taken two points in their last seven games and have lost their last four. They are now second from bottom and three points from safety.
