Two first half goals win the José Antonio Ruiz Caballero Cup (Island Cup phase) for Lanzarote.

Junior gave the Rojillos a 9th minute lead and Yeray Tavio scored the second in the 35th minute with a dazzling run flying past the Yaiza defence and then with a cool low finish in off the far post.

Yaiza performed much better in the second half but in fairness didn’t cause Lanzarote too many problems.

Lanzarote will now represent the island in the quarterfinal stage of the province of Las Palmas which includes Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The draw will take place this Friday 13th and the match will be played before March 11th.

On a sour note, the exciting winger Yeray Tavio was injured in the second half. He tried to continue after medical help but it wasn’t to be as he limped off.
