POPULAR OLD FACES, NEW SIGNING AND OLD BOY RETURNS

Over the course of the summer every couple of weeks I will summarize what has been happening regarding signings and any other important info. This is the second update. For those of you interested in up-to-date info please look on the clubs Facebook page UD Lanzarote.

ÁLEX FUENTES (renewed)

Álex will begin his third consecutive season as a Rojillo and his fourth in total. The quick footed 26 year old winger scored on 10 occasions last season including an incredible hat trick against the then leaders of Spain’s second tier Real Racing on a magical Copa Del Rey evening.

ALEJANDRO MARTÍN and RUYMÁN FERNÁNDEZ (renewed)

Ruymán to our left with Alejandro.

oalkeepers, mates and the engine room of UD Lanzarote. Alejandro will begin his 10th consecutive season with the club and is as important off the pitch as he is on it. The 35 year old was out most of last season with injury however he made his one and only league appearance on the final day replacing Ruymán.

Ruymán will be starting his 9th season with the Rojillos and played in all of last season’s matches. The 37 year old is as fit as ever and is known within the league as one of the most consistent goalkeepers.

MIGUEL GOPAR (new signing)

Miguel Gopar.

Local boy Miguel Gopar may be UD Lanzarote´s first new signing but everyone already at the club will know of his courageous talent after his three year stint with the club from the 2019/20 season after he joined from UD Las Palmas reserves. He went on to play for local club CF San Bartolomé and was instrumental in getting them promoted to the RFEF 3 (Fifth tier) for the first time in their history. Now at 29 years old the midfielder is at the peak of his career and everyone at the club is delighted with his return.

MARIO ROMÁN (new signing)

Mario Román.

Mario is the clubs second new signing and has had plenty of experience in this category on the mainland. The 26 year old left sided centre back can read the game well, pick a pass and has a lethal strike with his left foot. I am sure all Rojillo supporters wish our new six foot centre back the very best.

ÁLEX CRUZ (renewed)

Álex Cruz.

The 28 year old versatile full back will begin his third consecutive season with the club and his fifth in total. Álex was recognized as the league´s best player in the 2023/24 season and his consistency and commitment are two of his many great features. I saw in a match last season that Lanzarote were comfortably winning, his constructive comments to a junior player who had lost the ball in the final minutes. He is old school and won’t stop until the referee blows.

JAVI MARTÍN (renewed)

Javi Martín.

Midfielder Javi Martín is certainly one of the clubs most talented players. He has that ability to make the game look easy and has a vision that only a small percentage of footballers possess. The 27 year old only missed two matches last season and will begin his fourth season with UD Lanzarote.

DANI GONZÁLEZ (renewed)

Dani González.

Dani is probably Lanzarote´s most underrated player though certainly not from his teammates and management. His work in midfield is immense breaking up play from his opponents and he is the first person to begin creation of a Rojillo attack. Every team wants a Dani and we have him now on his third consecutive season and his fifth in total.

The club is in constant negotiations with players but at the moment new manager Ángel López has all these players at his disposal and of course last season’s player of the year Raúl.
