LANZAROTE AWAY IN GRAN CANARIA THIS SATURDAY (1st March) AND CUP WIN

The Rojillos will travel to Gran Canaria this Saturday 1st March to play CF P.P. San Mateo at 12 noon.

Lanzarote are without a league win in four games which has seen their automatic promotion hopes disappear and they are now just clinging onto the final playoff position in fifth spot.

Many fans took a playoff finish for granted if they were unable to win the league, however UD Ibarra led by the son of Diego Maradona have been in devastating form and have leapfrogged Lanzarote into fourth spot.

Tenerife side CD Marino trail Lanzarote by a point in sixth and La Palma side CD Mensajero who had a terrible start to the season have gradually climbed the table into seventh and are just two points behind Lanzarote.

This Saturday’s opponents are going to be fighting for their lives as they occupy the final relegation position and are two points from safety. In their last four matches CF San Mateo have only been beaten once but have drawn the other three matches. Last October the match ended 1-1.

Lanzarote will be buoyed by their 1-2 cup win last night in the Copa José Antonio Ruiz Caballero (Canarian Cup) versus UD Valterra.

The side from two divisions below Lanzarote were 1-0 up at the break but in a full used squad it was first team regular Ale Fuentes that turned the tide. The winger who scored a hat trick in the Copa Del Rey rescued his side with a goal two minutes after the interval and another two minutes before the end of the match to secure a passage into the quarter final.

The draw will take place next week though Lanzarote will be away and will meet a team from one division below.

The next home match has been confirmed for Sunday 9th March at 12.30pm at our temporary home in Tías versus UD Los Llanos de Aridane.
