FINAL PUERTO DEL CARMEN TOURNAMENT Lanzarote 1 Tenerife B 3

The Rojillos lost the final on Saturday evening in a feisty contest against a side that are well into their training program compared to Lanzarote who began at the beginning of the week.

This was Lanzarote´s second pre season match and usually these early matches are not so competitive. This was far from the case as tackles were flying in left, right and centre forcing the referee to fill up his notebook with cautions to both sets of players.

Lanzarote went into a 9th minute lead when local boy and former Tenerife B player Ale Fuentes won the ball on the right and sent in a low cross where fellow local lad Alex Cruz finished off to send Lanzarote 1-0 up.

Six minutes later and Tenerife were level. Striker Salifo cut inside on the right wing and from the edge of the box powered in a low drive into the bottom right hand corner.

Tenerife´s extra two weeks of preparation over their rivals began to show as they looked the sharper of the two sides however Lanzarote were very organised in defence and the score remained 1-1 at half time.

Once again many changes for both sides occurred during the interval but the Rojillos with the wind to their backs were looking impressive though in the 68th minute Tenerife went 1-2 up when Adrián created an opportunity with some neat footwork to beat keeper Ruymán.

Lanzarote battled to the end to try and take the game to penalties but as they pushed forward they were caught out and in the final kick of the match Adrián scored his second and his team’s third to give his side a flattering 1-3 victory.

The 250 fans who turned up to watch the encounter will not be dismayed by this result as the Rojillos looked organised and fit after their first two opening preseason matches. In the semi final earlier San Bartolomé CF beat Puerto Del Carmen La Tiñosa 5-0 to take third spot in the tournament.
