SHOW ME THE WAY TO GO HOME

Before the end of this month it is expected that all the renovation work at Ciudad Deportiva in Arrecife for the new artificial football surface and running track will be completed.

UD Lanzarote has been forced to play all their home matches this season at the football stadium in Tías and whilst the hospitality and the facilities have been appreciated every Rojillo fan is looking forward to going home to Ciudad Deportiva in Arrecife.

Six months has passed since the work began in Arrecife and since that day I and others involved in the club have been constantly asked the same question “When are we going back to Arrecife”?

Originally the authorities mentioned January but those of us that have lived on the island for many years never really believed that. My opinion has always been that it should take the necessary time to finish the pitch correctly. The previous pitch was never laid correctly and if there are pivots in the surface the grass will slide like a carpet and this can cause serious injuries.

The good news is that the football surface has been ready for a few weeks and according to the players the surface is wonderful. The running track around the pitch is expected to be finished in a few weeks and the authorities are targeting Lanzarote to return home on the 6th April versus CF Unión Viera and if this is the case then the final four league matches will be back in Arrecife.

It is understandable that supporters have got frustrated on how long things have taken and the club share that frustration. Not only has the club missed out on not having a secure training pitch but financially there has been no takings from the canteen and even though the support in Tías has been good there would have been a lot more people coming through the gate in Arrecife. Be patient it will happen soon.

The team has been in terrible form having only taken two points in their last five outings and this has seen the Rojillos slip out of the playoff positions and down to sixth spot.

Even though the form has been poor a playoff position is still in their own hands and with 10 matches remaining the club needs every supporter to be positive and cheer on the team starting at our temporary home in Tías this Sunday the 9th March at 12.30pm.

So much about football is having confidence and a packed noisy Tías stadium will give the players bags of it. See you Sunday at 12.30pm.
