LANZAROTE   7   CD SANTA ÚRSULA   0

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.

The Rojillo players had a point to prove and boy did they make a statement firing 7 goals past a side that had not lost in 4 matches. The only complaint was that it should have been double figures.

In over quarter of a century supporting the Rojillos I have never seen them score seven goals at home without reply and thoroughly beating a side so convincingly.

Goal scorers, left to right: Nadjib, Machín (2), Josimar; Ayoze and Iglesias (2).

The weather was forecasted to be slightly cloudy though come the noon kick off there was no cloud to be seen and 25 degree heat shone down at Lanzarote´s temporary home in Tías.

The Rojillos didn’t hang about. In the 5th minute captain Ayoze Pérez set the tone for the day by recovering from a slip but then supplying a deadly cross to the far post for Adrián Machín to nod home to get things rolling at 1-0.

Every time Lanzarote went forward there was danger. In the 18th minute the CD Santa Úrsula keeper pulled off an extraordinary save at his far post from an Alex Cruz powerful downward header. Sportingly many Rojillo players congratulated the Tenerife keeper on such a fine save.

Lanzarote just couldn’t find that second goal despite creating many good opportunities and then the Tenerife side had their best chance of the match with a strike from the edge of the box but Rojillos keeper Rúyman saved well to his left.

In the 42nd minute striker Álvaro Iglesias stormed though the defence and was brought down just inside the box and with the referee in a good position to view where the foul had taken place and a spot kick was awarded. Ayoze Pérez stepped up and struck the ball perfectly into the bottom left hand corner and it was 2-0.

Dani González, often the unsung hero of the Lanzarote team was out of this world. He did not allow the Tenerife defence a second on the ball and won every challenge he went in for. He owned the midfield along with his captain allowing Javi Martín to do what he does best and create.

Lanzarote´s dynamo in midfield Dani González.

Just before the break there were another two great opportunities to extend the lead but whilst the build up play was exceptional the finishing was slightly off key though that was about to change.

Five minutes into the second half and the game was over. Goals from Machín, Álvaro Iglesias and first ever senior goal for youngster Josimar killed off any hope that the Tenerife side had in the space of 300 seconds.

Josimar with a super strike to score his first goal for the Rojillos.

To be fair to the opposition, they never once lowered their heads and at times were a threat though there was not one Lanzarote supporter with any concern. This was a welcome rarity watching your team play without a worry in the world.

With the game already won Rojillos manager Juan Carlos Socorro had the luxury to give all of his five subs a run out. The two youngsters 19 year old Isaac Morales and 21 year old Adrián Dorta both impressed and it was the latter that won the ball and began the move for Lanzarote´s sixth goal.

In the 74th minute it was Dorta´s  pass that found Álvaro, who in turn picked out Nadjib, the Lanzarote winger had been out injured for several weeks and couldn’t have hit the ball more sweetly from the edge of the box to give his side a 6-0 lead.

Incredibly more opportunities went begging with the woodwork being struck on a couple of occasions. In the 83rd minute a sublime pass through the heart of the Tenerife defence by Oli was chased down by Iglesias. The strong striker from Bilbao shaped his body perfectly to be able to slide the ball wide of the keeper into the far right hand post to score his 11th goal of the season and the complete the 7-0 rout.

This maybe one of Lanzarote´s best ever scores but it is only three points. Goal difference only comes into play if teams finish equal on head to head and that is rare. Lanzarote moved back into third spot, level on points with UD San Fernando with both sides trailing league leaders UD Las Palmas B by six points.

The players must take this confidence into their next match which is the away derby game against San Bartolomé CF. One thing that you can guarantee is that the home side will play with incredible passion as they did in their last home match when they beat second placed UD San Fernanado 1-0.

The match is likely to be on Saturday evening at 6pm but this has not been confirmed.
