CD HERBANIA WIN THE SAN BARTOLOMÉ TOURNAMENT

The annual San Bartolomé tournament took place between the 8-10 August with four teams competing San Bartolomé CF, UD Lanzarote, U.S. Yaiza juniors and Fuerteventura side CD Herbania.

On the opening night Lanzarote played hosts San Bartolomé CF and trailed 2-0 by halftime. Winger Ale Fuentes scored early in the second period for the Rojillos but it was not enough as San Bartolomé clinched a 2-1 win and progressed to the final.

CD Herbania beat Yaiza juniors 2-0 on the Friday in the other semi final. Lanzarote won the third place match versus Yaiza juniors 3-0 whilst CD Herbania won the final versus the local side 0-1.

It was a good night for the Fuerteventura side and also emotional as it saw the return to football of one of Lanzarote´s past favourite players Josito. The lad from Fuerteventura had a special relationship with the fans from the UD Lanzarote Trifulka fan club who aptly used to sing Josito es Conejero (Conejero is the name of a local person from Lanzarote meaning rabbit hunter). Josito had an injury last season and he did think that his football career had come to an end but two halves of football in as many games means the Conejero is back.
