LANZAROTE   2   SAN BARTOLOMÉ CF   0

Lanzarote move into top spot following this derby match win in front of around 2000 fans.

Newly promoted San Bartolomé put up a spirited performance but Lanzarote´s quality in passing and possession forced their neighbours into chasing the ball and this eventually wore down los batateros (potato farmers).

The match began at a frantic pace and lacked composure from both sides. Gopar for San Bartolomé and Ayoze Pérez for Lanzarote both had strikes at goal but neither effort tested the keeper.

As the half continued the Rojillos began to gain more possession but their visitors did not allow them any time on the ball. Lanzarote were almost caught out just before the break, defender Alex Cruz had to clear the ball with his keeper left stranded preventing a certain goal for San Bartolomé.

Only a minute into the second half and a free kick by the impressive Santi Rosa found Gonzalo Di Renzo . The big number nine had stolen a yard from his marker and from six yards the league´s deadliest striker made no mistake placing the ball past ex Rojillo keeper Agoney to give his side a 1-0 lead.

This inspired confidence throughout the Lanzarote team as San Bartolomé had to keep chasing shadows but as the game entered its final quarter there was just a single goal separating the sides. If the visitors had scored it would have sent their massive travelling support delirious and pumped adrenalin back into their tiring team. Fortunately for Lanzarote they were unable to do this.

Great support from both sides.

Ayoze Pérez was given his first start of the season and what an inspired choice it was from his manager Pipa Gancedo as the Rojillos captain rolled back the years to give a super performance. Fellow local lad Javi Martín had to slip back into a more defensive role which he played as though he was a veteran as he passed his way out of trouble with a majestic air of confidence to his game.

Plenty of fuel left in the tank of the Rojillos captain Ayoze Pérez.

In the 74th minute the tireless Di Renzo picked up the ball on the edge of the box and was brought down by the centre back for a clear penalty. Ismael Traoré stuck the ball into the right hand corner sending the keeper the wrong way to send his side 2-0 up.

Traoré making it 2-0 from the spot.

In the 82nd minute San Bartolomé centre back Bangoura picked up his second yellow card so his team were left with 10 men and no way back into the match.

After three matches Lanzarote have seven points and are ahead of CD Tenerife B and fellow local side U.S. Yaiza on goal difference. Next Sunday Lanzarote travel to Tenerife and face 14th placed side Atlético Victoria at 11am.

Before this Lanzarote are involved in an away match in the Federation Cup against CD Guadalajara from the league above, Segunda B, on Wednesday. There are 32 teams competing and should Lanzarote reach the last four this would guarantee them a chance of meeting a Primera Liga side in the Copa Del Rey.
