TOURNAMENT TINAJO SEMI FINAL, Lanzarote 4 San Bartolomé 5

The Rojillos lost in a nine goal thriller however they will not be playing in the Third place final today which was scheduled for 6pm as Yaiza are refusing to play because of having their 1-0 win from the previous night annulled due to an infringement in the rules.

On Thursday evening Yaiza beat CD Tinajo 1-0 to progress to the final or so they thought. CD Tinajo protested that Yaiza had used ten substitutions when the rules only allow eight. Yaiza believed that the two clubs had a verbal agreement prior to the match as these tournaments are used to test the strength of a clubs squad. The rule was upheld and Yaiza were demoted to the third place final which they have refused to play therefore Lanzarote will not play tonight.

Lanzarote had a dreadful start to the match going 0-1 down within two minutes however 10 minutes later it was 1-1 when Rojillos defender Justo headed in a León Gómez free kick.

The score was 3-1 to Lanzarote at half time and striker Ale Fuentes even missed a penalty but winger Santiago Rosa scored in the 36th minute with a powerful strike and León Gómez added to the score two minutes before half time to secure a two goal cushion.

San Bartolomé were well and truly back in the game two minutes from the restart from a penalty to make the score 2-3 then 10 minutes later it was all level at three apiece when a cross found an unmarked Yaiza player at the far post.

With 20 minutes remaining Lanzarote were reduced to 10 men when defender Justo had to come off following an injury and the Rojillos had already used their full quota of substitutions.

San Bartolomé took full advantage of the extra man and raced into a 3-5 lead scoring two goals in the space of six minutes. Lanzarote replied from a deflected free kick from Tomás Pérez in the 88th minute but it was not enough to avoid defeat.

These two teams will meet in completely different circumstances on the 24th September when they play their first ever match together in the Tercera Division on the third game of the season with three massive points at stake.

Due to the Third v Fourth place match being cancelled the Final originally scheduled for 9pm will now be played at 7pm tonight (Saturday 12th) between CD Tinajo and San Bartolomé.

Lanzarote´s next match is probably the San Ginés in Arrecife but this match is organised by the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) and they must confirm date and time. As soon as it is confirmed I will publish.
