LANZAROTE   3   UD IBARRA   1

Lanzarote´s great form continues as they move up to third spot and eight matches unbeaten with three games remaining.

The Tenerife side began the day in the last relegation position and five points from safety. Their game plan was simple, to defend and frustrate Lanzarote whilst hoping to score on the counter attack. Their plan worked wonders in the first half limiting Lanzarote to a couple of half chances and as their confidence grew they began to beleive that they could get something out of the match.

The Rojillos had to be patient and the breakthrough finally came in the 54th minute when an out swinging corner from Isaac was met with a powerful low header into the bottom right corner from Gonzalo Di Renzo.

Everyone was expecting Lanzarote to extend their 1-0 advantage but in less than two minutes the score was level. The Rojillos lost the ball in the oppositions final third and Ibarra broke with pace and striker Jhonny guided his shot into the far right corner to make the score 1-1.

Lanzarote were not going to take anything less than three points from this match and were relentless in their attacks on the Tenerife defence. In the 63rd minute Meca stole the ball from Ibarra´s defence and released Ayoze Pérez down the right. The Lanzarote captain normally so good in these situations shot from the edge of the box but his effort went over the crossbar by some way.

Defender Isaac had a clear strike at goal in the 73rd minute but the keeper parried the shot. A minute later and Yeray Cruz saw his shot blocked, Di Renzo tried to fire in the rebound but the ball eventually fell to sub Rodrigo who blasted it home only for the goal to be disallowed as he was marginally offside.

These lads had a cracking day out.

The Tenerife side were on the ropes and with 11 minutes remaining a long throw from Keita caused chaos in the six yard box, Di Renzo fired the ball back along the goal line and centre back Raúl thumped the ball home to give Lanzarote a 2-1 lead.

The visitors wouldn’t lie down and credit must go to them putting such a valiant performance but three minutes into stoppage time sub Pipo sent the Rojillos star striker Di Renzo  on a one on one with the keeper, the league´s top scorer coolly rounded the keeper and stuck the ball home to give Lanzarote a 3-1 win and all but condemn the visitors to relegation.

Lanzarote are up to their best position of the season third spot but three teams are sitting just one point behind the Rojillos and one of those is CF P.P. San Mateo who Lanzarote play away in Gran Canaria next week. San Mateo is in sixth place and just out of the playoff positions but this shows how fragile Lanzarote´s position is.
