AWAY MATCH THIS SATURDAY SUSPENDED, INJURY, NEW FIXTURES and DEBUT

Tomorrow’s away match, this Saturday 19th March  versus Unión Viera CF has been suspended due to an outbreak of Covid within the Gran Canarian team.

Three of Unión Viera´s players have tested positive for Covid and two of those share a car with other members of the team who have also shown symptoms. The Spanish Football Federation decided to suspend the match and Lanzarote were advised of the situation yesterday afternoon.

The game will be rescheduled and played before the first week of May.

INJURY

Midfielder Rúben Martín (photo) suffered a broken hand in the match versus CD Herbania last Sunday and will have to undergo an operation to repair the damage early next week.

This will be devastating news for the 20 year old after being promoted to the first team from the youth squad this season and having made four substitute appearances for the Rojillos.

On behalf of all UD Lanzarote supporters we wish Rúben a speedy recovery.

REARRANGED DATES

Two matches that had been previously suspended due to Covid now have been issued dates to play by the Football Federation.

Away Wednesday 23rd March at 4pm, CD Unión Puerto v UD Lanzarote

Home Wednesday 30th March at 5pm UD Lanzarote c CD Tenerife B

Not forgetting the existing match that Lanzarote play at home on the 27th March at 12 noon v Arucas CF.

DEBUT

Due to the growing list of causalities on the treatment table and suspensions this has given the opportunity for many of the B team and youth team players to progress their footballing careers. The latest player to have been drafted in was B team player Matthaeus.

Impressive debut from Matthaeus.

The 20 year old played the full 90 minutes out of position as left back. Despite receiving a yellow card in the 6th minute he played superbly the rest of the match safeguarding Lanzarote´s standing as the best defence in the league with a clean sheet.
