SAN GINÉS TOURNAMENT SEMI FINAL

LANZAROTE   4   U.S. YAIZA   1

The Rojillos eased into the final of the San Ginés tournament with a terrific display of football rounded off with four superb goals.

On a perfect evening for football fans got to see many new faces and very few of those fans left the stadium unhappy with what they had seen.

Lanzarote began the match with crisp passing, good movement and the fitness of a side ready to start the forthcoming season. In the 12th minute centre back Raúl charged through the centre and with incredible intelligence chipped the ball over the defender into the path of new boy Rubo. The 28 year old striker kept his eye on the ball and from 15 yards couldn’t have hit a dipping half volley any better as the ball rocketed into the top left hand corner of the net and the Rojillos were 1-0 to the good.

Rubén Blanco (Rubo) opening the scoring with a cracking goal.

The home side went 2-0 up in the 36th minute when another new boy Leo Márquez scored possibly a better goal when he acrobatically volleyed in from 15 yards. Lanzarote lead at the interval by two goals to nil.

A much changed team in the second half saw Lanzarote lose much of its flow as Yaiza began to gain possession. In the 60th minute the 250 fans were treated to another corker of a goal. Winger Gabri cut inside the Rojillo defence and finished his own move by rifling the ball into the roof of the net and Yaiza were back in the match with the score reduced to 2-1.

Lanzarote had dominated the match but from a corner ex Rojillo Javi Melián thought that he had levelled for Yaiza but his powerful header from six yards did not get past the wonderful reflexes of keeper Sasha. The Rojillos are incredibly fortunate to have three very good goalkeepers and you can take for certain that this 22 year old will push both Alejandro and Ruymán for that starting spot.

Lanzarote quickly regained control of the game and in the 84th minute it was a hat trick of new boys scoring when Senegalese midfielder lost his marker from a Gómez corner and from six yards left the keeper with no hope as his header flew into the top left hand corner to give his new side a 3-1 lead.

Two minutes later and Miguel Gómez read a stray pass deep inside his own half and flew past a defender before hitting a low strike from ten yards to give Lanzarote a 4-1 win.

There were many positives from this performance. Right back Miguel Angel has arrived at the club from local team San Bartolomé CF and played a faultless match.

A player that caught everyone’s eye and was given the final 30 minutes of the game was the five foot four inches (165cm) Brazilian new signing Alyson. The 19 year old has quick feet and an abundance of talent. He maybe young and still learning his trade but he is the type of player that puts fans on the edge of their seats.

Three Brazilians with new boy Alyson in the centre.

Lanzarote will meet either CD Mensajero or UD Tamaraceite in the final on Saturday evening at 7pm. These teams play at 8.30pm tonight so Lanzarote are guaranteed to play a Segunda B (Third Tier) club in the final.
